You called it, coke, especially the 6 1/2 oz bottles, that was when the product was good. My family hails from a town not far from where Coke was said to have originated in GA. My dad told us that his dad said when it first came out the locals called it dope, and most wouldn't touch it.

My how times change! Good call!

If you are of a certain age(?), well, let's just say I'm of a certain age, so in my grandfather's day, coca-cola indeed contained dope. True. The "coca" part of the name is indicative of an ingredient in the original formula. Folks back then were probably witness to effects of the drink not to mention medicines, some perhaps snake oils, made with the plant extract that was legal at the time.

Regarding snake oils, it could be argued that probably an overwhelming majority of Big pHarma products are of that ilk. Clear eyed conclusion on one aspect of said products: there is no such thing as a side effect; though undesirable, effects brushed off as "side" effects are nonetheless direct effects of chemical concoctions. Repeat to yourself and to your doctor; they need to be educated.

I suspect we are in the same age bracket. I long for the old days when smudge-pots still dotted the roadways. 🔥

Never even heard of smudge pots as a kid as there wasn't much call for them in the northeast and mid Atlantic of my childhood. Not until college getaways to FL and later living in SoCal did I ever see one and hear the locals talk about sleepless cold nights keeping all the many fires going. Poor things didn't know from snow, 'specially feets 😉 of it and weeks of deep freeze cold. ...Times of innocence. For all of us, including, but for a very few, hoodwinked adults. What a time to be alive this early century is. I'm kinda bummed I'll miss the long term results of the shift we're at the beginning of. Many, many changes in the next half century to be sure. Statistically, I'll be dead by mid century, TBD. Oh well.
