Fascinating observation about drivers with no patience. Out on my bicycle this summer and fall, more times than not when readying to make a left hand turn on a two lane road: I signal with my left arm and move my bike toward the left side of my lane of travel (toward the middle of the road). Out on my bicycle this summer and fall, more times than not when readying to make a left hand turn on a two lane road: I signal with my left arm and move my bike toward the left side of my lane of travel (toward the middle of the road). Historically, cars behind me would wait for me to complete my left turn and then proceed. MULTIPLE times in the last few months, drivers will NOT WAIT and will pull into the left hand lane and drive around me - almost as I am preparing to make my left turn. It’s maddening. I always look behind and beside, but it is egregious the selfishness of these drivers.
Willing to bet there are few these days that recognize the hand signals... or even know they are meant as signals.
Considering how few folks can be arsed to move their left hand ever so slightly to activate their car's turn signals, it seems likely to me they are unaware.
I'd like to think so; I use them and taught them to my kids. But my confidence in the abilities of drivers as a group diminishes with almost every journey...

I think that an arm fully outstretched and pointing to the left would tell them something. If they cared to pay attention.

God bless you and keep you, out on the road. Ride (drive) defensively.
Are you in FL? Florida does not respect bicycles.
