I recently met my new primary care physician (PCP). My previous PCP left the university health system, of which I am employed. During my "wellness visit" I asked my new physician about his position on vaccines, and fully expected the usual big pharma/big government talking points, to which I was ready to reply, "I'm not the patient for you." To my surprise, he gave a thoughtful answer explaining his "hit or miss" position..., so I gave him a bit of a pass on that. Unfortunately, only days later, I received a message through the patient portal that he, too, was leaving the university health system (academia) and I would be assigned yet another primary care provider. Lots of disenchantment going on around here.
Mine left and started her own direct payment practice. The first 2 years it wasn't bad, because patients who followed her got a nice discount, but now it's $130 a month. I guess it's worth it for the random times I need something fast, and she'll see me same day but quite disheartening. I'm old enough to remember the GP visiting our house when we were kids.
