The Constitution and the Separation of Church and State was not meant to restrict the people, it was meant to restrict the government from imposing a religion on the people. The people have every right to put The Ten Commandments up in public schools. It’s high time we take our schools back from these godless communists! It’s time we take back our institutions!
More than hang it on a wall, it should be part of the PUBLIC SCHOOL curriculum annually. Each commandment is a tip of the ice berg for our social compact and foundation in law that every secular ethicist agrees with. All kids SHOULD be asked to explore the whys and wherefores of Thou Shalt Not Steal….Thou Shalt Not Lie… Thou Shalt Not Kill… etc. Age appropriate, of course, revisit these statements and deepen the moral and ethical underpinnings of what our country runs on. We might just heal the great divide and empower those who think themselves disenfranchised to get on board our community wagon.

Clearly from someone who doesn't follow the 10 Commandments. How can you possibly say that if a child reads them, that it may not save them from committing horrible acts?

Prayer was made illegal in 1962. I was in second grade when the daily audible prayers in my school ended. My husband who lived in western Kansas had school prayers until 1965.
We might want to clean up the order of the Ten Commandments. I had to memorize them in order to be confirmed in the Lutheran church. Ours read as Dan stated them, but Jeff’s had a different order. I have seen this a few times in different Christian churches. While not a huge thing, the 4th Commandment, “Honor they father and mother”, will always be ingrained in my brain.
The commandments are really broken down into two parts. The first commandments are about our relationship with God, the respect and awe owed Him. The second half is our relationship with our fellow humans; the respect we must have for one another.
Yes, they can be summarized as, first to love Yahweh your Elohim with all you heart, mind and strength, and second, to love your neighbor as yourself. That is what the Messiah told the young man in Mark 12: 28-31 who asked him what the greatest commandment was. It is a restatement of the Shemah from Deut. 6: 4-5.
I didn't realize that some learned the commandments in a different order. If one reads them from the tenth upward, the fourth is to remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.

And Wriggling Out, for sure, has been greatly accelerated by over the top institutionalized wickedness of the system of corporate governance which has displaced government as once understood.
I hardly say that English Law existed before the Romans invaded what they came to call the province of Britannia. This is an impossibility as there were no English people nor an English language of a semblance to that which has been spoken for the last few hundreds of years. Tribalism and tribal rule was the habit of law, both Celtic and Germanic influenced depending circumstances.
The rise of what came to be called English Law is usually attributed to Alfred the Great who instituted the Doom Book, or Book of Dooms circum 893 AD. Alfred was a great reader, uncommon of kings back then, and he drew heavily on synod and Scriptural law. And there is lots of material available on this should anyone be interested, and it's a fascinating field for study.
Sure posting stuff does not automatically change the world, but shifts can be important, and great movements in history like the great Protestant Reformation began with seeding at least a hundred to a hundred and fifty years in advance of Luther tacking up another certain posting on a certain cathedral door.
Personally, I would never out of hand belittle the posting of information, because who knows where things may go or lead? That more elite types in certain states think that a return to something more substantive than Simon Says Law is in itself noteworthy.

You have a very jaded view on this - its a massively broad statement to say that our economy runs on greed, lust, and envy. If that is evenly partially so, it is because many people decide not to follow the Ten, instead of following them. I think I would say our economy gives everyone the opportunity to be all they can be, good and bad, and of course God gave all of us free will. Many, many people do amazingly well while following the 10. Those that don't? Well, they can't take it with them and they will be judged according to what they did. Many would do well to remember that.
Are you also denying that God gave us the Constitution of the USA and the Bill of Rights? Because many decide to ignore or undermine it does not mean it is not the greatest social contract in the history of humanity (and relies in large part on Christian values including the 10), only that evil exists in every domain and some of us look the other way instead of doing the right thing.

I have always understood it to mean that our nation was based on and came about by the Biblical faith of our founding fathers, all of whom are descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and who share that faith that began with the original Israelites, through whom the Messiah was born, He being Jewish. To that extent the Bible is most certainly "Judeo". Even the books of the New Testament were first written in Hebrew by the Jewish Apostles, including Paul.

It is interesting that you mention the Ten Commandments and school prayer. I was born a few years before you - 1963. In third grade, we lived on the Millington NAS outside of Memphis, TN. In the summer before my third-grade year, the elementary school caught fire - every child's dream, right? No, they sent us to other community schools, off of base. I was sent to a predominantly black elementary school. This school had the Ten Commandments on the wall, we prayed every day before lunch, and the principal read a bible verse every morning during the daily announcements. We also got seconds for lunch, and the black vice principal took 30 minutes out of his day three times a week to work with three of us on advanced math. It was a great school - falling apart, but a great school. The thing I remember most was the prayer and how much those teachers cared about us.
When I was a child in grade school, we started every school day with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. How far we have fallen since government took over our educational system.

Child Protective Services in California is in the business taking children from their parents, then putting them up for adoption and sometimes those kids end up on the streets in the sex business—child trafficking by the people that are suppose to protect children. One case I am entirely familiar with—drug addict (my former son-in-law) is narcing out and not taking his daughter to school, not feeding her breakfast, etc. etc. His girlfriend was doing a lot but then they broke up and she decided to report him to child protective service. Mistake. It’s better to live in a hovel with mice running over the bed, not getting your kid to school, and dressing her in unlaundered clothes so she is pariah. Well, some jobs require you to be a mandatory reporter, and sometimes, things do need to be reported, like when one of my student's fathers who was mentally unstable, drinking (drugs?) who had a history of suicidal threats would leave his loaded hand gun around. A former coworker of mine, and friend at the time, lost her grandson when the parents took the youngest with them to get pizza and left the other child at home by himself. The Constitution and the Separation of Church and State was not meant to restrict the people, it was meant to restrict the government from imposing a religion on the people. Prayer was made illegal in 1962. I was in second grade when the daily audible prayers in my school ended. My husband who lived in western Kansas had school prayers until 1965.
We might want to clean up the order of the Ten Commandments. I had to memorize them in order to be confirmed in the Lutheran church. Ours read as Dan stated them, but Jeff’s had a different order. I have seen this a few times in different Christian churches. While not a huge thing, the 4th Commandment, “Honor they father and mother”, will always be ingrained in my brain.
The commandments are really broken down into two parts. The first commandments are about our relationship with God, the respect and awe owed Him. The second half is our relationship with our fellow humans; the respect we must have for one another.
Yes, they can be summarized as, first to love Yahweh your Elohim with all you heart, mind and strength, and second, to love your neighbor as yourself. That is what the Messiah told the young man in Mark 12: 28-31 who asked him what the greatest commandment was. It is a restatement of the Shemah from Deut. 6: 4-5.
I didn't realize that some learned the commandments in a different order. If one reads them from the tenth upward, the fourth is to remember the Sabbath to keep it holy.

I hardly say that English Law existed before the Romans invaded what they came to call the province of Britannia. This is an impossibility as there were no English people nor an English language of a semblance to that which has been spoken for the last few hundreds of years. Tribalism and tribal rule was the habit of law, both Celtic and Germanic influenced depending circumstances.
The rise of what came to be called English Law is usually attributed to Alfred the Great who instituted the Doom Book, or Book of Dooms circum 893 AD. Alfred was a great reader, uncommon of kings back then, and he drew heavily on synod and Scriptural law. And there is lots of material available on this should anyone be interested, and it's a fascinating field for study.
Sure posting stuff does not automatically change the world, but shifts can be important, and great movements in history like the great Protestant Reformation began with seeding at least a hundred to a hundred and fifty years in advance of Luther tacking up another certain posting on a certain cathedral door.
Personally, I would never out of hand belittle the posting of information, because who knows where things may go or lead? That more elite types in certain states think that a return to something more substantive than Simon Says Law is in itself noteworthy.

If that is evenly partially so, it is because many people decide not to follow the Ten, instead of following them. I think I would say our economy gives everyone the opportunity to be all they can be, good and bad, and of course God gave all of us free will. Many, many people do amazingly well while following the 10. Those that don't? Well, they can't take it with them and they will be judged according to what they did. Many would do well to remember that.
Are you also denying that God gave us the Constitution of the USA and the Bill of Rights? Because many decide to ignore or undermine it does not mean it is not the greatest social contract in the history of humanity (and relies in large part on Christian values including the 10), only that evil exists in every domain and some of us look the other way instead of doing the right thing.

To that extent the Bible is most certainly "Judeo". Even the books of the New Testament were first written in Hebrew by the Jewish Apostles, including Paul.

As the Second Person of the Trinity, Jesus is the Word Incarnate, the Word made flesh and the Messiah looked forward to by the faithful of the Old Testament. This was the true religion of the Tribes of Israel of the OT. There was no "Judeo", only the belief in God's promise of the Messiah to come. In that sense, you could call the OT believers Messiah-ians which is identical to what is meant by Christ-ians today except for their placement in the time line of history, before and after the Word of God came in the flesh, the promised Messiah.

It is interesting that you mention the Ten Commandments and school prayer. I was born a few years before you - 1963. In third grade, we lived on the Millington NAS outside of Memphis, TN. In the summer before my third-grade year, the elementary school caught fire - every child's dream, right? No, they sent us to other community schools, off of base. I was sent to a predominantly black elementary school. This school had the Ten Commandments on the wall, we prayed every day before lunch, and the principal read a bible verse every morning during the daily announcements. We also got seconds for lunch, and the black vice principal took 30 minutes out of his day three times a week to work with three of us on advanced math. It was a great school - falling apart, but a great school. The thing I remember most was the prayer and how much those teachers cared about us.
When I was a child in grade school, we started every school day with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. How far we have fallen since government took over our educational system.

Child Protective Services in California is in the business taking children from their parents, then putting them up for adoption and sometimes those kids end up on the streets in the sex business—child trafficking by the people that are suppose to protect children. The moral of the story is that no matter what is going on that is dysfunctional in a family, never call child protective services. One case I am entirely familiar with—drug addict (my former son-in-law) is narcing out and not taking his daughter to school, not feeding her breakfast, etc. etc. His girlfriend was doing a lot but then they broke up and she decided to report him to child protective service. Mistake. It’s better to live in a hovel with mice running over the bed, not getting your kid to school, and dressing her in unlaundered clothes so she is pariah. All better, much better than ending up on the streets. California government does not care about children at all. And it’s not a secret. Watch they’ll elect other criminals for office.
Well, some jobs require you to be a mandatory reporter, and sometimes, things do need to be reported, like when one of my student's fathers who was mentally unstable, drinking (drugs?) who had a history of suicidal threats would leave his loaded hand gun around. So yeah, it isn't just cut and dry or that contacting CPS is always bad (she was never taken away by cps btw)
Leaving a loaded hand gun around children is very dangerous if they haven't been taught gun safety. A former coworker of mine, and friend at the time, lost her grandson when the parents took the youngest with them to get pizza and left the other child at home by himself. He got curious about the gun, and accidentally shot and killed himself.
"Keep your eye on the children" means just that, and if you haven't taught gun safety to your children, keep them locked up, the firearms not the children, lol.
My Father was a hunter and an ex-marine. H collected guns. All of us were taught from the time we were small how to properly handle them and how to shoot them at paper targets. I got pretty good at the target shooting. When my father died, my youngest brother took them all to his place in rural Montana. Here in the West, its quite common to own guns, if properly handled.

In Louisiana with more than one school system they could only find a single high school student with an opinion, that seems just a bit selective. They could even go with we spoke with several students??? I believe this is trying to manipulate the narrative.

I think most kids like to have rules and boundaries, it gives them a framework to live within. It also helps them deal with consequences for their actions when they go outside that framework.

I only got a few paragraphs into today's Coffee and Covid when I saw the need for a comment. Today, as never before in my 74 years there is more widespread conscienceless fraud by politicians (and others tasked to provide social services) guarding the public money than ever before. Included in those paragraphs was mention of The Ten Commandments going back into schools. I graduated high school in 1969 and there was a posting of the Commandments, a pledge of allegiance to the flag and the Lord's Prayer included in my school day. I feel that the removal of these things during a child's formative years has contributed to this epidemic of fraud and embezzlement that is hurting our country.
