A Nice Weekend Message, Happy Saturday!

We all learn and grow in different ways, many times it’s a community, or a group. It can be at our job, where we learn from a person that is stronger in an area than we are. Or here on C&C, where we learn from a great author/lawyer and the experiences of their wonderful subscribers. Over time we can grow, we become educated, it could be we learn to be more compassionate, certainly we become better educated.

Within these groups are individual people, each of us with our own individual deficiencies. Some of us, myself included, struggle at times with dwelling on those limitations. If I was a little more self confident, a little taller, if I had a nicer personality, if I grew up in a better home, or maybe if I controlled my temper better, be a little more patient. We often let our faults and weakness become an excuse to stay at mediocrity. The truth is God doesn’t just use perfect people. If he did, none of us would have a chance.

As believers our life is not put on hold until we become perfect. Gods calling uses all of us as we are growing, while we are changing. Like all of the disciples Peter was far from perfect, he had a bad temper, used bad language, cursed at people. His faults showed right up until the crucification of Jesus and I’m sure beyond.

He had plenty of room to grow but yet he was still chosen as a disciple, one of Jesus’ right hand men. You would think Jesus would have picked someone more polished more disciplined. When you have a heart to please God you may make mistakes, you may have areas you need to strengthen, but that doesn’t disqualify you from doing good along the way. If God could use Peter in such a great way, with all of his flaws, he can surely use us. The scripture says Gods power shows up greatest in our weaknesses. So if we wait until we are perfect, we will be waiting our entire life.

This doesn’t mean to accept our limitations, we should always try to grow, improve, strive to do better. Isn’t this why we’re all here? But in the meantime we shouldn’t beat ourselves up because we haven’t arrived. We are Gods workmanship, it’s a lifelong process. There will always be areas we need to work on. Instead of condemning ourselves we need to start accepting ourselves. There is power when we conclude I like who I am. I’m happy with myself.

Here’s a great short story I hope you’ll enjoy.

There was an elderly Asian woman. She had two large pots that hung on the end of a long pole that would rest on her neck and shoulders. Every day she would walk from her house down to the stream to get some fresh water. One of the pots had a small crack in it, the other pot was perfect. Because of the crack when she’d get back from the long walk that pot with the leak would only be about 1/2 full. This went on week after week month after month.

The perfect pot was very proud of its accomplishments, always bringing a full pot of water. But the pot with the crack, well it felt a little embarrassed, ashamed by its imperfection.

One day it said to the elderly woman I really feel bad that I don’t measure up, I’m only delivering about 1/2 of what I was supposed to. The woman said, have you noticed that there are flowers on your side of the path from where the water has leaked out? That’s because I’ve always known about your flaw so I have planted seeds on your side of the path. Every day when we return from the stream you water those seeds. For the last 2 years I have picked those flowers and decorated my house. Without you being just the way you are there wouldn’t be this beauty in my house.

Every one of us has unique flaws and weaknesses. We could easily be down on ourself. But just like this lady, God knows where to plant the seeds to get the most out of our weaknesses. Remember God is not finished with us. Don’t go through life being against yourself. Dare to say I like myself. Be the best you can be with what Gods given you. Keep striving and you’ll find you will become everything Gods created you to be. J.Goodrich

Yes, Peter is my favorite apostle. He screws up at times, Jesus even called him 'satan' once, and yet he was the "rock" on which Jesus built his Church. We are all St. Peter at times, both the good and the bad qualities, but all Children of God and thus blessed.

Yes, Peter is my favorite apostle too, because he reminds me of me. But may I kindly and with great love, correct something? Peter is not the rock on which Jesus built His church. It was, in fact, Peter's declaration that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God, as recorded in Matthew 16:16. The Church is built on faith in Christ as our Savior, not on any human being.

Quoting the opinion of a Catholic man doesn’t quite cover the disagreement DoubleMC pointed out above. I suspect that this issue will have to be one about which many of us will have to agree to disagree. Here is a great little article that provides four different possibilities for the meaning ‘the rock upon which the church will be built.’ One day believers will see Jesus face to face and will be able to ask what He meant with the play on words in this passage. Until then, we will have to agree to disagree about our preferred interpretation.

Thanks so much for that meaningful exhortation! Along that same theme, I went to a pre-screening at Biola University for I Can Only Imagine 2. It comes out February 20 and addresses this same topic. God uses our flaws for his glory. Highly recommend it. It continues the story of Bart, the lead in Mercy Me, which I Can Only Imagine, the first movie began.

Dang! Thank you for this. I am so beyond imperfect and wonder why God even pays attention to me but yet he does. I have had a good life but have dealt with physical issues and anxiety and depression that seems to go hand in hand. Yet, I have been blessed and these issues have made me who I am today. Even so, I need a lot of work but God is holding me up. My husband wears a belt and suspenders and he was asked once why. I said it was a big job and he needed extra enforcement. 🤣That's how I look at God. Extra support when life becomes difficult and a thump on the head when I act up. Again, thank you for making me think this morning.

Oh my, I love your post in so many ways. A great reminder to keep God as our focus. The story at the end was such a beautiful way to show our flaws have a purpose, we just need to remember we don’t need to be perfect in our eyes. We will never be perfect. We can only pray for God’s grace to make us stronger and more capable to spread the Truth.

Second thought about your post, a quote from Jordan Peterson, who I have trouble listening to for very long, but usually like what he's saying...just not how long it takes him to say it...but I digress. The Peterson quote (roughly from memory): human beings are built to carry burdens. We thrive when struggling (not always of course...but when we get to that balance...maybe?) This seems to be part of what you are saying?

It’s mind boggling. My neighbor and I opened our doors to neighbors for a petition drive in Colorado. 3 ballot initiatives for next November:

1. Prison for life for sex traffickers

2. Ban sex surgeries (child mutilation) for minors

3. Prohibit boys from playing in in girls sports or using girls locker rooms in k-12 ed.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON said the same thing as they signed, “Can you believe this is even an issue?”

Common sense in America is dead.

I'm beginning to think that America is probably 60% conservative (or more). So many of these positions are downright silly, and so few people would support them if asked.

The people that support them are either using them to gain power (BLM, elected officials) or are emotionally driven to oppose everything the administration does.

If they can clean up the fraud and the voting systems that are entwined with them, enforce citizen-only voting and robust voting practices, we might well see this in the voting results, leading to the virtual death of the democratic party in the US.

As someone who knocks a lot of doors, I would tend to agree and perhaps even put that % in my midwest corner of the world higher than that. The problem is that many: are turned off by 'politics' - the inflammatory rhetoric, the bashing, the ugliness and are more focused on 'life' - jobs, kids, health issues, etc. AND some are cowed by the very loud and obnoxious 'cancel culture' crowd. They are afraid to put up a yard sign. They 'keep their views to themselves' and may or may not vote. Have had people tell me, oh, I meant to vote last year but forgot.

Bongino's pre-FBI frequent comment "It's not bad enough yet" comes to mind. Sadly, once it gets 'bad enough' it is too late. Public schools are a joke. Our city is turning into a 15 minute city. People are being taxed out of their homes. And yet, people vote for Democrats because they run campaigns based on emotional appeals and virtue signaling. Then they get elected and turn sharply left, but the average voter is back to head in the sand, or asking what is happening to our city/schools?? Answer: you voted for this.

He even thinks he need not get involved because he is not that affected by politics because he seldom ventures more than a few miles from his farm.

Oh no doubt there is some rot in the elections. But I am talking about local. I highly doubt any international involvement in our area and our election board is credible. Have been an election judge for 5 years and have seen nothing to make me question the results. I watch the blue haired people, those wearing rainbow flag shirts, NEA pins and other such virtue signaling voting apparel show up in droves in local elections, while in the presidential, American flag shirts, and other conservative 'signals' are the majority. Trump won all precincts in my city in 2016, all but 2 in 2020, and all but 11 in 2024 (out of ~50). So yes, creeping purple, but the most conservative precincts based on presidential elections also have the lowest turnout % in local/April elections. We don't have required party registration in MO so no exact way to measure, but lefties definitely raise more money, have more volunteers, and host more candidate events than the conservatives. Been working hard to change this but it's an uphill battle.

Great observation, and one I've been saying for a while.

When you look at the policies the dems support, it's nuts. Most of them are completely illogical and any thinking person would see that. Unchecked immigration, crime/bail policies, welfare fraud, illegals voting - all of this stuff is complely crazy.

That's why arguing with them is pointless - they didn't arrive at these positions from logic.

Look at what EO's Spamburger just initiated. Also, Tucker just had a podcast yesterday about a young man and his brother going to other countries and following the path of how immigrants get here from Africa. It is astounding the amount of money and fraud and danger involved. One of the brothers was beat in the face in Paris when photographing a street vendor from one of the African nations. The brothers financed this trip on their own. They are setting on a similar journey very soon. Amazing podcast and only 30 minutes.

UPDATE: one notion behind what I posted here is that we need the first one to fall, the first counties to split from a blue state. It changes the "Overton Window". THAT's my main excitement about the "Greater Idaho Movement".

I'm all for Albertan independence, but how about Eastern OR ("Greater Idaho Movement")?

And then Eastern WA.

And then...so many more red counties dominated by the big blue city in their State.

I fear we are fast approaching a national “divorce.” There are blue cities who simply hate - a visceral and seething hate for, America and its founding principles. They cannot be persuaded to come back into the fold. The mass demonstrations in MN are exhibit A as well as the Dems get out the vote strategy for the midterms. Watch it vanish as soon as the election passes…. They are demonstrating against law and order and our country’s right to enforce its own border, in reality…

If we could prevent foreign interference and investment in these “protests”, we could prevent riots and obstruction and the need for increased law enforcement. My idea, at least one move away from our current lack of representation in the Congress: each State elects two Senators but instead of the elections both being State-wide, one Senator is selected by the counties with the largest populations (half of the State's population) and the other Senator is elected by the smallest counties.

You just list the counties in order of population, from largest to smallest. Go down the list until you hit 50% of the State's population and that's where you draw the line.

There was an attempt in South Dakota to make sure that every county was represented in statewide ballot initiative petitions. That attempt was defeated by our legislature, thus solidifying urban areas' heavy thumb on the rural areas --- in a supposedly "conservative" state.

John Thune is our Senator, so that should tell you something.

Greg, I think that the fix you propose will be difficult to accomplish, I suggest the root cause of your dissatisfaction be addressed more directly and easily: term limits for the likes of members of Congress. Patty Murray (D-WA) has been in the US Senate since 1993, 33 years! And Maria Cantwell (D-WA) has enjoyed the power of incumbency since 2001, 25 years.

It’s an interesting thought & I’d need to do the county by county math, but at least in NM, the population of the entire state is only about 2.5 million, mostly centered in liberal Albuquerque, Santa Fe & Las Cruces. In addition, some of the smaller rural counties are liberal too (most of the Indian reservations, as 1 example, & we’ve got a LOT of them).

imagine the amount of "foreign" money and influence, whether it be from the DNC, or other countries that would pour into those thinly populated areas in order to buy the elections. I think corruption would win over the population's political preferences, since it would be easier for big money to use it's influence.

In small-population areas, it is a lot easier for the locals to identify who is being bought and to bring pressure on them.

While these things are technically doable, constitutionally, there are so many hurdles that would be impossible to jump. Sadly it’s not just what the people who live there want … both (all?) state legislatures would have to approve and then it would have to be passed by Congress. You're right of course, David. But here's my hope: we just need the first example to happen. I hope it's ID and Eastern OR, but maybe if Alberta leaves C eh N eh D eh, it will be the first domino?

I've written several times to President Trump, because I know how much he values my opinion (ha!), asking him to get behind the Greater ID Movement.

And my pushback against Salem OR, the ones opposing this, is "look, you're not going to lose in Congress. The smaller OR will still elect two communists to the US Senate. And the conservative representatives that Eastern OR sends to the House will still be going to the House...but from ID. OR might lose a representative or two but Portland doesn't!"

But then there's the money and resources. The lefties hate to admit it but if they are left to live on organic vegetables and wind/solar power, they're going to be hungry, cold, and walking everywhere.

I love it! Maybe one way is to model reforms after the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. A key principle to those brilliant documents was the rights of minority populations or factions. That's pretty much lost at the State level.

So, what reforms to State Constitutions would get us there? Super-majority requirements for key things the Legislature does to the Red Counties might be a good start. No rules, regs, building/development codes for rural areas that don't apply to large urban areas, although we gotta be careful with that because the response might be "ok, all the stupid stuff Portland imposes on itself now applies Statewide!"

What ideas do you all have for reforming State Constitutions to protect red counties?

Unfortunately Canada is the perfect example of what happens to a pleasant country when it is ruled by people who genuinely hate the native population. (By native I mean the people who built the country not the Eskimos.) Couple that with a native population that are too "nice" to do anything about it.

Your economy is in the toilet as it was 1) deliberately sabotaged by people attempting to wish liberal green new deal fantasies into reality. That seldom works. And 2) it was structured to exploit the good-will of the US in acting as back door passthrough for foreign goods (legal and illegal) into our country. And unfortunately for Canada our good will is over.

Next, your government actively worked to import millions of foreigners (mostly India Indians) into your country. These people have no stake in Canada, its history, or culture, in fact they openly despise it. They simply see Canada as a vehicle to extract money (again legal and illegal) for their own gain, they are quite literally parasites. This has happened in the US too, but as a percentage of Canada's population the magnitude is mind boggling. And this was done to deliberately replace your country's White, Christian population.

Your government actively destroyed any sense of Christian social cohesion which built the country in the first place. The perfect example is the mass graves hoax which your government deliberately promoted, which falsely portrayed kind-hearted historical Christian charity towards the Eskimos and Indians (not the India type but scalping type), as a psychopathic genocide. Your government actively promoted homosexuality and trans insanity as a social good, while demonizing anyone who objected as evil. They even prosecuted them as hate crimes. Your frootloop former prime minster (the bastard son of Castro) was the poster child for all of this.

And what did Canadians do while all this was happening? Nothing. The population of Canada again quite literally did nothing as objecting wouldn't be seen as "nice". The Americans are loud and obnoxious, and obsessed with their guns, and we don't behave like that in Canada. Well maybe you should have. Aside from the heroic truckers, has their been ANY organized resistance to all of this? Nope, that wouldn't be "nice" and the most important thing in the world for a Canadian is that no one view them as mean.

Seriously, after Trudeau drove the country off a cliff, the country still wouldn't elect the most milktoast, namby-pamby, so-called Conservative around. In fact Poilievre deliberately ran a campaign that pandered to the India Indians, trash-talked Trump, with almost no specifics, and even that was considered too right-wing. Instead you elected a globalist banker from the same party as Trudeau. Lol. Just not serious people.

So this is why Trump is actively decoupling from Canada, your government is evil and the people won't do anything about it. And unfortunately for Canada, it is only going to get worse as Trump is going to punish Canada severely for colluding with China. All of the "nice" Canadians will just have to console themselves with memories from a proud past, such as their participation in WW2 or the last Stanley Cup win in 1993.

Or, the people of Canada can get over their virtue-signaling about how "nice" they are and actually do something to reclaim their country. I don't see it happening.

You are correct about the laurentian elite. The divide is between east and west. Western provinces are more independent and we have massive tax transfers from Alberta to Ottawa and basically finance the country. Albertans are independent and louder than the snobs in the east. Our cultures are very different. You comment is right about the east but increasingly wrong about the west

Canada has also been affected by the same "election fraud" as the US (as well as the more populated smurf energy as we see in red states with blue pop centers) so it does not ALL rest on the Canadian people.

Re: Alberta- there are LONG lines to sign the referendum document to become an Independent Alberta, which is wonderful! HOWEVER, I have very little faith that there will be honest elections during the actual voting. Canada will not give up their cash cow so easily.
