I don't know...I think people know humor and don't internalize it.
Years ago, during the Pete Rose gambling scandal, someone interviewed a bunch of kids to determine if his behavior disillusioned them. Surprisingly the answer was "no" and the most common reason was "he's just a baseball player" (ie - he's not a role model).
