My novice guess is that this is being done to lower crop yield and quality and also to weaken trees in the forest, making them more susceptible to disease (According to the U.S. Forest Service, tree mortality from bark beetles and drought has reached over 29 million trees, up from 3.3 million trees in 2014.) or fire, which we've had more of in recent years. And who knows what this is doing to us as well all living things.
