My son (the oldest) married a Cally girl (from the Valley no less--OMG!!) and they lived in the San Fernando Valley, San Diego and Sacramento over the first 14 years of their married life. I can attest it's a totally different "atmosphere" in Cally-- I liked the Sacremento area--the people were friendlier and the weather and "flora" reminded me of our home state of PA. Southern Cally? BLEH!!!!

That teacher was indeed "biased" against me--I'll never know why, because I always did well in her classes and helped with the Yearbook (which she was the advisor for both years - Junior and Senior). I thought we had a good relationship--that's why her telling me that really hurt. I didn't have the trendy clothes (my parents were basically poor) and I was a very "reserved" student--I got more open and friendly in my junior and senior years--LOL!

We learn from all of our experiences, don't we, Marci--"good, bad and otherwise"!

We do. I had no idea that this particular English teacher thought I was a suck up until she asked in front of the entire class, “You realize you’re going to get extra credit for doing this, right?” (She’d asked me to come in and do my presentation on a T.S. Eliot poem for another class because no one in that period had chosen it.) Her question shocked me, and I told her that I had no idea and just considered it an honor to be asked. I think she was trying to humiliate me 🤷‍♀️, but I was made of sterner stuff. LOL

I was a sassy and confident teenager. I’m still sassy (although others might use another term 🤪) and will stand up, even when I’m scared because, if not me, then who?
