Yes. Actually Liz, despite her horrible 'I'm ready to push the button to nuke Putler', was much more conservative than this new idiot.

Expect the tyranny to ramp up even more in UK.

More conservative in what way? I'm not defending Sunak but one of Truss's first moves was to announce an unfunded tax cut for the wealthy. Does anyone think the problem these days is the rich pay too much in taxes? This isn't 1980. Truss's problem was that she thought she could get away with 1980 Reagan/Thatcher rhetoric in 2022. Whether she was sincere or not who knows, but she was clearly wrong.

Reagan and Thatcher were great but the world has greatly changed since then, most notably by the corrupt axis formed between governments and multinational corporations. Warmed over Thatcherism isn't the answer in 2022 due to the almost incomprehensible levels of corruption. It's the antithesis of modern conservatism (more correctly national populism), which now correctly identifies crony capitalism as the core economic problem, not high cooperate tax rates. Britain needs a Teddy Roosevelt Republican (as does the US for that matter), not a Ronald Reagan in 2022.

There's an old saying, first it's an idea, then it's a movement, then it's a business, then it's a scam. Unfortunately that is what happened to "conservatism" as Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney types realized people were too stupid to differentiate between pro-free market versus pro-big business. They convinced us that somehow supporting corrupt multinationals like Amazon, Apple, and Pfizer was conservative (while Paul Ryan and Mitt Romney lined their pockets). Now those companies are so big they are dictating to governments how they must behave, or worse yet are joined at the hip with them as part of the security state. Yet some "conservatives" still cling to an antiquated notion that these companies are benevolent and just looking to better our lives.

Truss tried to play the 1980 conservative and no one fell for it, hence her lasting only 42 days. It would be like Ben Sasse, Richard Burr or one of the other corporatists in the Senate becoming president and mouthing Reagan platitudes. It's an absurd notion on its face.

Unfortunately Sunak will be just as bad if not worse, but he is smart enough not to pretend he's Thatcher.

One thing that kind of shocked me and put me off about some of my conservative/Republican friends was when we discussed the mask and jab mandates ordered by businesses, they shrugged it off and said that it was the company’s right to do business how it wanted and that if people didn’t like it they could go elsewhere. I’m sorry, I am all for businesses having the freedom to make business decisions but not to the detriment of human and individual rights. Medical slavery or coercion should never be allowed ever.

Perfectly logical and highly commendable.

I obviously concur.
