In their eyes, they themselves are the only democracy that is legitimate and they have no intention of relinquishing control of the apparatus of power which they have taken. Here is Joe's idea of democracy: "I am democracy and all opposition is a threat to democracy!"
This is the same situation Jesus faced when He made the treasonous statement against Caesar (who is god and owns all things) for which the Romans crucified Him when He said, "Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's and unto God that which is God's." With the same logic as Caesar, Joe can make a speech claiming MAGA is a threat to democracy.
