It’s my understanding and there are news reports that jwhat happened is after the people from the Eastern part of Ukraine formed “self-proclaimed Republic of Donbas”, in response the Ukrainian gvnmt launched a military operation in that region. What I don’t understand is these people are called “separatists” whatever it means but from what I could tell A LOT of them are just regular civilians who suffered from shelling in that area. Reports from years ago say that thousands of people died as a result of those clashes. They had to arm themselves to protect themselves. Some were small business owners and just regular civilians. We could argue that Putin used this situation to add fuel to the fire but after analyzing this whole situation it almost looks like it started as a civil war in this region where ethnic Russian population resides although they happen to be Ukrainian citizens, they hold deeply pro- Russian views and are/were dissatisfied with their government, especially during former President’s Poroshenko and Turchinov years where they’d say to people from this region, “our kids will go to school and you and your kids will spend time in the basements”. I have Ukrainian friends and I’m deeply sorry for what they are going through and all the innocent lives lost but these are just regular people vs their gvnmt and whatever it’s doing and something doesn’t add up in the story that we hear. This didn’t start in February 2022. Also, after seeing a link that Jeff provided how every country uses propaganda on its population I know both sides use propaganda, especially during war. I think there are so many unanswered questions and it’s hard to know what’s really going on but not everything is the way it seems.
There were oblasts that voted to break away from the 'newly installed' government, an installation that was overseen and run at least in part by the CIA. Those places have been shelled on a regular basis by the new 'government' in retaliation, causing tens of thousands of deaths, and I don't know how many casualties. None of this has mattered to our government, who has used Ukraine as a major money-laundering point, as well as establishing dozens of internationally illegal bioweapons labs on Russia's doorstep, which could be seen as a major concern to them.
None of which is offered as 'justification', but it is curious that such is ALWAYS ignored and overlooked by those who seem to want others to only see one side of the situation. Well, not really curious at all, but certainly telling...
Considering that many of the casualties since Russia actually moved in have come from Ukrainian forces shelling their own people to blame it on Russians, I seriously doubt that your claim it correct.

The oblasts voted to “break away” in a Russian “referendum”?
I would also like you to know the 2020 elections were the most secure ever.
Why are Russians running away from their posts and fleeing in Luhansk and Kherson?
This was never about donbass.
Russia has killed more of the Donetsk and Luhansk folks than Ukraine ever did.
Which 2020 elections were more secure: Those in Ukraine or those in the USA? HA.
Considering that many of the casualties since Russia actually moved in have come from Ukrainian forces shelling their own people to blame it on Russians, I seriously doubt that your claim it correct.
Who said it was "a Russian referendum"...?
“Shelling their own people”
Like the DPR/LPR who have been shooting at Ukraine?
Just saying
Who ran the referendums?
The Russian army and Wagner.
More people from donbass have died because of russias direct actions than from Ukrainian shelling.
Every war starts with a lie. The rothchilds funded both sides of WWI to sell arms. Follow the money.
