His parents were a train wreck (at least as far as their relationship to each other) and he's completely estranged from his father (who was a monster/psychopath from everything I have read). I wouldn't attribute anything his parents said/did to him, necessarily.

As for clean tech, he's come straight out an admitted that it makes no economic (or climate) sense (even as he's reimagined it) and is really a temporary pet project. His goal is to move beyond Earth.

As for your last point, that sounds very intriguing. Is it scientifically possible? Sustainable? And are you saying that it's the Corporatist Giants in the Energy/Auto sector that have regulatory capture over any attempt at moving into truly sustainable fuels? (I could totally buy that.)

It's a pretty fascinating (awful) story if you research Musk Sr. Yes, he was rich, but such a psycho that Mrs. Musk grabbed the kids and left for America with absolutely nothing (in terms of riches) to start over in a place where she and the kids could be safe from their father.
