Yup, i agree, I didn’t have much choice with my firstborn as the nearest birthing center was over an hour and a half away and there were no home birth midwives locally. So I found a great doula and a less interventionist doctor and managed to have a non medicated hospital birth. For my second child, we were in a different city and state …

I wish more people would use midwives snd not be afraid of out of hospital births!
I would never have thought of having a home birth thirty years ago and still might be scared to today, but after being at my daughter's for her last three home births, I have to say that it is a much more humane, healthy, and family-centered experience. And my daughter is so much more in tune with her body and with the whole birthing process. It's really a wonderful thing.
I’m so glad you are open to this! It is scary because we’ve been brainwashed into thinking that pregnancy is a disease to be treated rather than a natural bodily process that generally requires little intervention. Doctors and society have made women think that we cannot handle labor without drugs. And doctors need to always “do something” (much like our government when there is any kind of a problem) even if that something doesn’t really help and may actually create other issues. I know in some cases interventions are necessary but far less than what is currently done. And our outcomes are no better for all the interventions either. It’s really an eye opener once you start looking at the whole system and setup for pregnancy and childbirth.
I am thankful for those doctors out there who still have common sense and integrity!! Wish there were more of them but glad we at least still have a few!
