My late mother-in-law (born in 1922) was an example of how many people viewed things: If something was printed in a newspaper or said on network TV news, it was unquestionable truth. Doctors were viewed as little gods, and not to ever be questioned. I guess a lot of people still think that way.

Interesting. My 96 year old mother was immediately very suspicious telling me vaccines take 10 years to come to market. She and my father, in her words, agonized for a year and half abt vaccinating me for polio in the ‘50s.

I like to think my own mother (died in 2016 at 95) would have been suspicious too. She had bad experiences with the medical profession....she almost died at age 46 from undiagnosed celiac disease. Doctor after doctor told her that her symptoms were "all in her head", ignoring the fact that her weight had gone from 120 to 85. She was only saved by the good fortune of finally encountering a doctor who was actually familiar with celiac disease at that time (1967). She never trusted doctors or the medical professional very much after that.
