The state has absolutely no right to tax churches. There is a fundamental, God-given right to worship and our forefathers made sure this could never be removed by, or encroached on, by the State. Taxation is control. To tax churches is to grant that the government only allows us to meet to worship at their good pleasure, not because we have the right to do so. The government must never be allowed to control the church in any sense. Remember the mayor of San Antonio who demanded that sermon notes be submitted for her review before being used by the pastors in her city?
