Wise comment - you must have read this…

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Think about these things - that bears repeating.

I wasn't thinking about that verse but it's fantastic.

One of the benefits of attending a strongly biblical church (thirty years for me) is that you can't help but being brainwashed (but in a good way) over time. The Bible calls it the renewing of one's mind (Romans 12). After a while there's an inherent sense of biblical vs. non-biblical behavior. One doesn't need to search for a verse to understand how to react to things as it becomes one's nature.

And of course being open to be led by the Holy Spirit is key. But one has to know the Bible to understand if something is truly of the Lord. The Holy Spirit is the author of the Bible and He doesn't contradict Himself. So if one is questioning if something is of the Lord, but it contradicts scripture, it's an easy call.

Yes to all of that! All kinds of rot can sneak up and pollute our minds, so we need to be intentional. “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly” (Colossians 3:16). Otherwise, garbage in, garbage out.

Exactly. And the Word is living and will prompt and quicken the heart when danger is near.

That’s my favorite Bible verse. I quoted it last night at dinner with friends. Every time I quote it to someone they ask me to repeat it. It’s so gorgeous! 💜✝️✨ But I prefer the KJV - most authentic to original manuscript.

It definitely ranks up in the top 10 of my favorites. The reason I quoted this one in response to Jeff C’s comment, is because it’s the one which always pops into my mind when the news of the day or events of the world start to weigh heavily in my heart and mind. Then God reminds me through this verse to redirect my focus. Isn’t it beautiful? ✝️💜

Freebird,

I have a beautiful vintage print of a young girl in a meadow, looking pensively at a flower in her hand with this same (slightly modified) saying underneath the print. I see it every day. With all the craziness and fear mongering going on in the world it’s a great reminder to reflect on the good in life. Fear, anxiety and angst are killers. They will not only shorten your life, but will make it miserable too.
