Loosing (loose) is a great word if aptly used. Loosing an arrow is one example. I wouldn't consider it stupid to misspell lose as it is something of an aberration. We don't pronounce close as "klooz", for example. English is a melange of languages and interesting to study. Even close is pronounced differently depending on the context!
