Trump trolls the media; excess deaths study; more celebrity SADS; Canadian pan school jabs; FBI high-jinx; electric cars out of batteries in Cali; a big win for Gipson's bakery; Euro nat gas troubles.
Happy Wednesday, C&C! It’s the final day of August. What fresh excitement will September bring as we home in on the midterms elections? In today’s roundup: Trump expertly trolls the media with predictable results; a mysterious conclusion to a new study of German excess mortality; sudden and unexpected celebrity deaths; Canadians reject school vaccines; whistleblowers report FBI hi-jinx; electric cars run out of batteries in California; a big win for Gibson’s Bakery; and the Russians dial back Europe’s natural gas even more.
🗞*COVID NEWS AND COMMENTARY* 🗞
🔥 President Trump expertly trolled the media and the loony left yesterday by suggesting in a social media post that he be immediately declared president, or that the country promptly hold a new election. He was responding to news that Mark Zuckerberg told Rogan that just before the 2020 elections, the FBI ‘asked’ Facebook to bury any stories that looked like Russian propaganda, which Zuck told Rogan was the reason Facebook banned the Hunter Biden laptop story.
Corporate media instantly hit the books, frantically trying to discover a new crime somewhere in Trump’s tweet. Trump’s lawyers pulled their hair out in clumps. And lefty activists turned the outrage dial up to ’11.’ How dare he! It’s another insurrection! For just one example out of many:
🔥 A new study published on ResearchGate this week titled, “Excess Mortality in Germany 2020-2022.” It uses actuarial science to estimate how many all-cause deaths in 2020 to 2022 there would have been absent the pandemic. Then it compares the number of actual all-cause deaths with the no-pandemic figure, yielding the excess mortality in Germany for the pandemic years 2020 to 2022.
The researchers concluded:
Something must have happened in April 2021 that led to a sudden and sustained increase in mortality in the age groups below 80 years, although no such effects on mortality had been observed during the COVID-19 pandemic so far.
Something must have happened, something must have changed in April 2021. SOMETHING. Something mysterious and baffling. So weird! What could have happened in April 2021 that started slaying all those young Germans? We’ll probably never ever know. It’s an unfathomable mystery wrapped in an impenetrable riddle encased in a confounding conundrum. It must all be SO frustrating for corporate media, since they usually swoon over a good “deadly threat” story.
Once while on a business trip in Miami, I watched with great interest an elucidating segment on the local news affiliate captioned, “Could your bra be killing you?” Hey, it’s important to keep up on these huge … developments.
Too bad for corporate media. We might also pause for a moment and have a little sympathy for the poor researchers, who probably know exactly what is going on, but aren’t allowed to say it and still get published.
💉 Scottish cyclist Rab Wardell, 37, died in bed last week from a sudden and unexpected heart attack. His partner Katie described him as healthy and happy, and was dumfounded by his sudden passing, saying “I still don’t understand what happened; if this is real.”
💉 Longtime San Fransisco Chronicle business and sports editor Al Saracevic, 52, expired suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday after collapsing at a concert in San Francisco’s Mission District.
💉 Talented new South African actress Charlbi Dean, 32, whose upcoming movie recently won the Palme d’Or award at Cannes, gave up the ghost Monday in New York City, from a sudden, unexpected, and undisclosed illness.
💉 The Canadian Globe and Mail reported the next baffling development yesterday in a story headlined, “Routine Vaccination Rates For Children, Teens In Canada Dropped Dramatically Since Start Of Covid-19 Pandemic.”
School vaccination rates in Canada aren’t just down a little; they’re down a LOT.
The Globe blames the lower rates on pandemic-related disruptions, school closings, reduced access to physicians’ offices and MISINFORMATION. But it doesn’t get into exactly WHAT misinformation might be making parents suddenly hesitant to jab their kids with dozens of no-liability injections. Weird. Baffling. Unexplainable.
It has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with all those young, healthy, and DEAD DOCTORS in Canada. Shame on you for even thinking that.
Some people might chalk this up as ANOTHER unexpected benefit of the pandemic. Not me. No, never. I think I’ll blame… public health experts.
🔥 Last week, Senator Ron Johnson (multiplied) fired off a letter to the DOJ about what FBI whistleblowers had told him about the Hunter Biden Laptop investigation.
Specifically, Johnson wrote:
After the FBI obtained the Hunter Biden laptop from the Wilmington, DE computer shop, these whistleblowers stated that local FBI leadership told employees, ‘you will not look at that Hunter Biden laptop’ and that the FBI is ‘not going to change the outcome of the election again.’
Decisions based on how they affect an election sure sounds like politics to me. But what do I know, I’m just a lawyer, not a political scientist. Johnson continued:
Further, these whistleblowers allege that the FBI did not begin to examine the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop until after the 2020 presidential election–potentially a year after the FBI obtained the laptop in December 2019.
They slow-walked it, eh?
Note this is a completely different letter than the one Senator Chuck Grassley sent the DOJ in May that apparently resulted in senior DC FBI agent Timothy Thibault’s resignation this week. Senator Grassley’s letter said:
Multiple FBI whistleblowers, including those in senior positions, are raising the alarm about tampering by senior FBI and Justice Department officials in politically sensitive investigations ranging from election and campaign finance probes across multiple election cycles.
Politics again. Weird. Last week, the Washington Times described the FBI whistleblowers’ reports in an article headlined, “Whistleblowers Describe A Culture Of Corruption At FBI Field Offices: ‘Completely Out Of Control’.” Among the many out-of-control high-jinx whistleblowers reported were going on down at the local FBI field offices included that supervisors:
forced or coerced agents to sign false affidavits.
fabricated terrorism cases to pump up performance statistics.
sexually harassed and stalked a female agent.
engaged in sexual acts with a subordinate in a government vehicle and crashed the vehicle.
Here’s a tip: you never want your sexual act to climax in a car crash. While exciting, it’s poor performance.
The whistleblowers also alleged the FBI was literally making up cases because Washington was rewarding high domestic terrorism investigation numbers. “You have to have so many terrorism cases per year in your office, or else you fail,” one whistleblower testified in an affidavit. “So they would come to us and say things like ‘Open up a case. I don’t care if it’s got merit or not. Just open it up. We only have nine, and we need 10 for me to pass.’”
Gosh! Maybe it’s time for a “reorganization.”
🔥 Houston, there might be a problem with this whole renewable energy thing. A new public announcement from California’s power grid operator warns that high temperatures are stressing the grid out, and consumers might have to reduce their power use during “flex times.”
During a Flex Alert, consumers are urged to reduce energy use from 4-9 p.m. when the system is most stressed because demand for electricity remains high and there is less solar energy available. The top three conservation actions are to set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher, avoid using large appliances AND CHARGING ELECTRIC VEHICLES, and turn off unnecessary lights. Lowering electricity use during that period will ease strain on the system, and prevent more drastic measures, including rolling power outages.
Let me translate: Stop charging those power-hogging electric cars or else we cut the power off.
It’s my seventh year of driving a Tesla. People ask me how I like it; I love it. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned. But — and this is critical — I’d NEVER recommend it as your only car. I live in Florida. The power was out for a WEEK after the last hurricane came through. The only thing worse than no power after a hurricane is not having a way to get around after a hurricane. It literally could be a life-or-death issue. Suppose you need to get to a hospital? Or to a hair sniffing event?
Electric cars are great when the juice is flowing. But when the government cuts off the juice, or when — as the California advisory says — solar power isn’t working, you just have to sit still. But at least you’re saving the planet or something.
Haha, that didn’t take long. Little Peter Buttigieg told Californians to just buy more electric cars to save money on gas, then two months later, they say don’t use the electric whenever it’s hot. Whoops! You didn’t notice that in the fine print? Suckers.
🔥 Back in 2016, Oberlin College encouraged and supported students and faculty in falsely accusing the local Gibson’s Bakery of RACISM. The bakery then sued the college for defamation, its lawyers enduring years of every dirty legal trick a large, well-funded woke college could throw at them, but a jury eventually awarded the little bakery $36 million in damages.
More years of appeals followed. But yesterday, Ohio’s Supreme Court turned down Oberlin’s final appeal 4-3, meaning the school will now have to stroke a check to the bakery it nearly put out of business with its reckless, goofy, woke nonsense.
Justice. This is the kind of thing that makes lawyering worthwhile.
The back story is that in 2016, several diverse Oberlin students attempted to steal booze from Gibson’s, a local family-owned bakery near campus that had long served the Oberlin community. A family member who noticed the theft chased the students out of the store; they attacked him. He called the police, the students were arrested, pleaded guilty, and finally admitted race had nothing whatsoever to do with their arrest.
But that didn’t stop Oberlin. Students and faculty members called the bakery owners racists; they staged protests outside; and Oberlin officials participated in the protests, endorsing and supporting the protestors’ fake narrative. Protestors harassed bakery customers, taking pictures and insulting them. They also blocked customers from store aisles and slashed the tires of a store employee.
In private emails later unearthed by Gibson’s hardworking lawyers, Oberlin’s degreed and credentialed administrators can be seen constantly vilifying the tiny bakery and anyone who defended the small business, calling Gibson defenders “idiots” and saying, “F*** them.”
Best and brightest! Oberlin parents, you sure are getting your money’s worth! In case the sarcasm wasn’t clear, by “sure are,” I mean, “sure AREN’T.”
To this day, Oberlin refuses to admit it did anything wrong, has cancelled all its long-standing contracts for baked goods from Gibson’s, and officially advises its students not to shop there, all of which, as you can easily imagine, became a major talking point in the various appellate briefs filed by Gibson’s lawyers along the way. In my law practice, I call that kind of vindictive post-lawsuit behavior “self inflicted injuries.”
It’s not too difficult to imagine that, had the college just promptly apologized to Gibson’s, paid them a hundred grand, and increased a few bakery contracts, all would have been well and this would be a non-story. But that’s not how woke works. Woke means never having to say you’re sorry, even if you have to pay somebody $36 million bucks.
Apologies are racist anyways.
🚀 I told you this would happen! Reuters ran a story yesterday headlined, “Gazprom Tightens Gas Squeeze on France’s Engie.” Last month, Russia cut Europe off from its main source of natural gas through the Nordstream-1 pipeline, first closing it down completely for ten days for “routine maintenance,” then after restarting, reducing the flow to 40% of normal, claiming broken parts.
Well, now Russia has cut the flow again, this time to 20% of normal, and has again closed off the pipe for three more days of “unscheduled maintenance,” starting today and continuing through Friday. As a result of the squeeze, some Europeans have reported increases in energy bills by as much as TEN TIMES, which let me tell you, takes a bite out of your disposable income.
The European Union accuses Russia of using energy as a weapon. Moscow denies that, and blames sanctions for the drop in fuel exports. Reuters suggested that Ukraine might replace the lost Russian natural gas, but oddly didn’t mention that the unlucky Ukrainians have their hands full right now with a WAR WITH RUSSIA.
European elites aren’t ready to give in though. “I strongly suggest we spare ourselves the humiliation of always asking Putin for something that we’re not going to get,” said Kevin Kuehnert, the number two official in German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s party. “The dependence on him has to end for once and all,” he groused.
This is probably not the time, but several years ago President Trump told the Germans this would happen, and they laughed at him. I bet they’re not laughing now.
So.
Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll catch you on the flip side tomorrow morning for more.

Thrilled to death that the Gibson’s won! Oberlin college has always thought they are better than anyone else in the community. They have done many other things to undermine the town, so this is Just Desserts. Sadly, the two main Gibson’s didn’t live to see the outcome of the case, but I hope they are looking down from Heaven and smiling. Truth wins!
"The FBI is ‘not going to change the outcome of the election AGAIN." How many times have they changed the outcome of an election! We will probably never know but that statement is very disturbing.
