My close family member is a big liberal. When he wants to degrade someone, he calls them a "hillbilly". I guess they are the only non-protected class. The new senator Vance's book was titled "Hillbilly Elegy". This puts some pieces of the puzzle together.

oh yes, I LOVE that book! He is so insightful and I am so glad he won his election. He seems like such a good guy. I think this post is encouraging in terms of getting somewhere with the name calling, gas lighting and cancel culture. It's awful how they throw hateful words at whoever disagrees with them, and yet they wear that liberal badge around as a shield to protect themselves from any and all accusations. We let them completely gaslight us all the time. I remember this one friend I used to have I was so appalled seeing her post on FB "Trump is SUCH a racist!" and she just threw that word around. I actually googled it to see what these people think he's done that fits that description and it's laughable. They can hardly come up with anything...a few remarks he made when he was angry about Covid coming from China. That's it, that's all they've got. Meanwhile their hero Biden actually said in a Senate meeting that he didn't want his kids going to school in a racial jungle. And that's not all, he has a long history of showing how he really feels. But that's all ok, because he's a Democrat. He's allowed to really feel that way. The D is like a protective cloak they wear around. It's getting so old and I hope this law in Florida starts to bring an end to these lies.

Great book! My life growing up was part "Hillbilly Elegy" and part "The Glass Castle." Interesting childhood, needless to say :)

When I lived out in the "real" world, "redneck" was a derogatory word. I now live in a small (getting bigger by the day because we have been free during most of this plandemic) resort town. "Redneck" is not derogatory here. It is fact.

Not a compliment. Just...fact. Nobody here is offended by it.

I guess you could claim they are too stupid to be offended. But that's not it. They understand. They just don't care.

Sticks and stones.

Kelly, my 16 year old's goal is to be more "redneck." It is truly an identity among younger kids now especially those immersed in woke nonsense. It's like a backlash thing.
