Sadly, battery plants are built with an expiry date, and then they'll be left to rot. I'm in NE KS and I'm disgusted by Kelly.... She's an east coast plant.

KS Republicans overall tend to puzzle me. I have relatives throughout SE KS, and my daughter in law is from Garnett; all are R's, but most seem to gravitate to very soft R policies. Most of them did not care for Trump, loved Jerry Moran, Bob Dole, Nancy Kassebaum and the like. KC transplants are turning JOCO blue and that is the real problem. Douglas, Johnson, Wyandotte and Sedgewick run the state. At least you got Roger Marshall across the finish line. Bollier outpent him by $10 million and still lost, which should give you a little hope.
I'm still convinced Johnson county has a serious voting integrity problem. I've looked at state house seat by state house seat and every single one "votes" 10-15% more democratic than you would expect based on registrations. And the whole county "voted" for Biden in 2020 - first time it "voted" for a democrap for president in 116 years.
Yes, Republicans here don't tend to stir the pot. I often wonder if it's because this area is seen as flyover country, and not much really happens here. I'm a transplant from NZ. I really like Roger Marshall too, not sure about Moran though. I'm in Shawnee country, and it's quite blue as well. Love SE KS. Especially Woodson and Chautauqua counties.
If you know Woodson, you probably know Piqua. That is where my dad was born. Still have a second cousin who farms there, but the town's best days were long ago. Missouri is very different. 30 years ago it was a mostly blue 'Truman democrat' state. (which is nothing like today's D party). My grandparents, first generation from Eastern Europe, and their 6 daughters and family were all D's until one aunt & uncle and a lot of cousins flipped in the Reagan years, as did I. Was a purple state in 2012 but Trump turned it red seemingly overnight. Got 80% in some counties. People never took their Trump signs down, paint Trump on their hay bales, and fly their Trump flags. (Hubby is in sales and drives all over the state and sends me pics) State party is a bunch of wimps but we are working on that, and our governor is gone in 2024, he has been mostly disappointing, but then so are the 3 front runners for next year. At least you know what you are getting with Laura Kelly. Ya never know with Parson.
Yes I know Piqua. A lot of the small towns down that way are past their best days. I think they're the best kept secret in the state. I love Toronto, and Toronto Lake. Will rent an Airbnb once in a while down there with a friend and we spend a weekend writing and walking on the waterfront. I've been looking at Barry County in MO. Some nice places down there close to the water. Love Lake of the Ozarks as well. My son works there off and on between Key West, FL during the differing seasons. SE KS is very red, and awesome to see the flags and Trump signs.
Yes, true, my son graduated from Pittsburg State in 2019, solid red area, and very few of his professors were woke, at least in the College of Technology anyway. Had a few libs in his gen eds.
Overall MO. Is much more conservative than KS. I’m not originally from either and have found MO. to be more consistently conservative compared to KS and one of the reasons we chose MO.
It's funny though, my dad's brothers, mom and cousins were all R's going back decades. My dad was the only D on his side of the family except for a small handful of woke cousins. My moms side, all life long Missourians are about 50-50 R/D at this point of who's still living. But the MO R's do not get along with the Kansas R's when we have had a 'both sides of the family' get together, which is rare now, as my dad and most of of the aunts and uncles have passed or are in failing health, but even a decade ago it was almost like they were in different parties.
I’m originally from WI and everyone in my family is and was a Republican. It makes family get togethers very fun and we’re able to discuss politics without conflict because we’re all like minded, even the youngest generation.
Have heard some say that farms and rural communities in the western half of that state are recipients of a lot of Fed dollars and strong fiscal conservatives threaten that, but have never done any vetting of that. Personally think KS biggest problem is KC libs flocking to KS and then wanting to turn the places they move to 'get away' from the problems - crime, high taxes, bad schools, into the places they left. Rural counties surrounding KC on the MO side seeing the same thing.

My brother lives in SE KS and can confirm.
Kansas needs more "show me" and less "please like me pretty please".
