Funny true story. A week or so ago we were at a family birthday party for a ten year old. After dinner we were set to cut the cake. After a rousing round of Happy Birthday someone broke out in song God Bless America. Everyone at the party joined in the song. Afterward someone said a new tradition has been added we’re going to sing that at every birthday celebration. ❤️
My grandson was recently playing a district soccer game. When the national anthem was played, the announcer asked everyone to join in. One young girl started singing and halfway through, I decided not to let her sing alone and robustly joined in. Immediately many around us began to loudly finish the anthem. Patriotism is contagious.
I’m going to spend some time at my piano later today playing and singing! We will see if I can get through it without choking up. Thanks for reminding us of those timeless, beautiful words.
I like to think it's the Holy Spirit flooding you with God's LOVE!! When this "Lapsed Lutheran" started going back to church after decades of New Age tomfoolery, I'd weep when the worship songs began. So choked up!! Because I was so convicted of my sin...but I am redeemed! Set Free! Thank you, Jesus! 🙌🏼👑🙌🏼
Heck. I still cry at the Anthem at football games. Something about 60,000 Americans, in one place, still respecting our country that gets to me. Trump's best statement of the campaign, "We don't have to live like this." I hate what the Progressives have done to my country. We don't have to put up with this crap.
Especially when I see the video of MARIAN ANDERSON singing it in front of the LINCOLN MEMORIAL - that one is a HUGE inspiration and massive 'tear jerker'!!
About 25 years ago, I was at a Shirley Jones concert in Milwaukee. For the last song of the evening, she sang America The Beautiful. She and her orchestra performed a beautiful rendition. When she was done, there wasn't a dry eye in the entire audience of thousands.
God bless America, land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home sweet home.
This just made tears well up!
God Bless America and heal our land.
That song gets me every time.

I like it!!
What a wonderful idea and modeling Patriotism for future generations.
Me too! I was sitting out back this morning and that’s the song God put on my heart. I started singing it and decided to share it. ❤️

I can never get through a patriotic song nor a Christmas song without tears. It’s embarrassing in some situations 😊
You are not alone Marty!
Don't be embarrassed. We need more tender hearts like yours.
Same
Marty, tear away. screw embarrassment.
I know what you mean. Crying, because of so many emotions.

Thanks for the amazing prayer. It was from the heart and right on 💜
:,)
Thank-you, Sunnydaze, for sharing it! It's a song we never hear anymore.

Yes! To me it's entitlement at it's worst.

I have never thought of that song as a prayer. I have thought of it as a patriotic song. But it really is a prayer, which we can all and pray today.
Bless you for the reminder. As I read it, I heard Ethel Merman singing....

Kate Smith is the one I remember singing it. She had such a rich voice.

It's been taken down. 😞
❤️
I love that. And I'm a (legal) immigrant!
I sing it to my 16 month old granddaughter! She loves it and "sings" along!

Beautifully written by Irving Berlin, who donated royalties to the Boy Scouts.
Back when that was worthwhile and uncontroversial
Never fails to give me hope.

That one got to me. I especially liked her introduction.
