Having fled Cali culture and returned home to Texas (twice), I have the impression Cali is interested in freaky fun and random surprises. I suspect they elect progressives and hope for clownish kerfuffles and fireworks. At any rate, they put the “no” in “normal.” Maybe Oakland learned its lesson.
I used to live in SF and as it started getting unaffordable, many of my (former) friends and acquaintances moved to Oakland. They SAID it was for the cheap rent, but I always suspected that it was also a big virtue signal, as these were mostly white peeps moving to the big black-populated city. They had successfully gentrified the Mission, and now were taking their act to a new town, a new culture.
For example, none of them moved to the equally cheap/cheaper San Bruno. None of them moved to Richmond. None of them moved to Pinole.
That fits my impression that appearances are a bit over-emphasized on the left coast. If we could separate the concept of culture from race, we could have some meaningful national discussions about social divisions.
If we could also start accepting that race is an artificial construct with no clear definitions and nebulous criteria, we could stop it from being used as a way to divide us into competing groups.
Well, WE can separate that, but it is part of the inherent racism/sexism of the lefties that they essentialize everything. A four year old girl who plays with toy trucks MUST be a boy 'born into the wrong body.' Because Boys = Trucks. Blacks are only 'allowed to be' struggling, gangsta, suffering from oppression, because blacks are in their essences SO DIFFERENT from whites that there is simply no place for them in white-constructed society (see Smithsonian (https://www.newsweek.com/smithsonian-race-guidelines-rational-thinking-hard-work-are-white-values-1518333) for examples). And that's how the lefties want it. They don't want to move into a self-contained and dprospering black community, because then where would their savior and mea culpa credits go--they NEED blacks to be one way and one way only...and that way is...NOT LIKE THEM. It is stunning to me how the left can preach diversity out of one side of their mouth, but the second an Asian wins the Indy 500 it has to turn into a story of how they are the yellow face of white supremacy because they are not cringing still about Asian hate crimes and the agony of whites assuming they are good at math.
It’s nauseating to see our great institutions fall to progressive rot. “Race guideliness.” What an insidious concept, and Newsweek magnified it. While most people just want to live in peace and take care of themselves and their families, the lunatic fringe works to make racism systemic. Haters would be ostracized if they couldn’t stir up hatred outside of their own camps.
