My heart is breaking for them! We love Lahaina! We’ve been there multiple times over the years. Happened to be there when they celebrated the birthday of the old historic Banya tree in the middle of town. Now gone. We had said if we ever went back we would stay in Lahaina as that was our favorite spot. 😢 My heart breaks for the locals and their homes and jobs and livelihoods.

I heard about the winds. Either way….. we just are keenly aware of what liars the govt and media is. Problem is, even if they are telling the truth - why would we believe anything they say? But, it doesn’t stop the grief for the people that live there and are devastated. 😭

I was last in Lahaina in 2006, and I remember there was a fire not far from the town. I was shocked because I didn't realize there were fires on Maui fairly often. It's definitely windy there as a rule, so any fire would be spread quickly in the dry areas.
