I’ve had cholesterol in the 200’s ever since it was first tested. There is family history of it being high with an aunt even having it in the 400’s. Also history of heart problems but I wonder how much is related to lifestyle choices (smoking, food) so I don’t put a lot into the numbers but mine has been going up towards the 300’s. Thankfully my doctor doesn’t push the statins and even told me that they are based on red yeast rice when I asked about taking that(um hello, then just tell us to take that). I had the best test results ( all my numbers were lower and higher as needed!) this last time and the things I changed in the last year was taking the red yeast rice regularly, drinking a little red wine a few times a week, taking Berberine HCL along with my CoQ10, and a product from doTerra. I am working on losing weight as I was down about 20 lbs the last time my numbers looked close to this. I refuse to take medication that is just going to create more problems.

I’ve not heard of red yeast rice. I’ve been drinking organic matcha tea, eating avocados, taking chia and flax seeds in green smoothies and on salads once a day, eating a handful of walnuts here and there, cut back on a lot of red meats, eating more salads, fish oil (which I hear is controversial because of what the pills are), and introduced a quality probiotic. Focusing on heart healthy foods really. I stopped eating sausage and bacon and other junk foods I used to eat. I also started exercising regularly besides just the yard work.

I think if after changing all this for 6 months if that doesn’t lower my numbers where they need to be I’ll look into red yeast rice! Thanks for the tip!

Sunnydaze,

I looked into Red Yeast Rice. It acts as a statin and has the same side effects. After I found that out it went in the garbage.

I’ve done a TON of research. Running Logic gave me some great doctors to look up and have been listening to podcasts. Dr William Davis is very good.

So, cholesterol isn’t the issue. It is triglycerides which are produced from processed carbs.

AND....VERY IMPORTANT....get a Calcium Score test done. This is the true gold standard on a predictor for a heart attack or heart disease. My cholesterol is 260. My calcium score is 0. Cholesterol is not a predictor of anything really.

Last thing, if you need calcium DO NOT take calcium supplements. Eat green leafy vegetables. Free floating calcium has been why many females over 50 have had heart attacks. The plaque build up in arteries is from calcium.

Oh man!! I was on a steep learning curve the past 3 weeks. The podcast are great though. Do a search on cholesterol on your podcast app. The only lifestyle change I am making is eating more fish. I already eliminated sugar, junk food and a lot of dairy. Don’t drive yourself crazy. Get a calcium score. It’s not covered by insurance and is about $100. ❤️

Thank you! This is great information. I will check into all this! I have heard what you are saying before too. So this confirms things.

If your calcium score is 0 does that mean you need more calcium? And if it’s too high that’s what can cause the heart attacks?

I’m going to look up the podcast too but I thought I’d ask.

Low carb is known, ironically, for lowering cholesterol.
