I'm a UK based reader of Coffee & Covid and whilst I agree the existing Conservative government were ejected on the basis of their handling of the past years (and their optics) I have to disagree that Labour have got in due to going against vaccine mandates. Labour are the more totalitarian of the two and wanted to push harder and faster on the lockdown and supported vaccine mandates as far as I am aware. Liberal Democrats have also done well in the election and they too supported the lockdowns and mandates. We have a Uniparty and narrow Overton Window here too alas.
Thanks for the local insight. I should have been more nuanced. I would probably offend just as much had I claimed the Republican Party opposed mandates. The GOP's good fortune was mainly not being in power when mandates happened.
Yup. Labor wasn't rewarded but the Conservatives were punished. They've been in power for ages and didn't govern "conservative" in the least. They are globalist puppets and sell-outs doing the bidding of their paymasters. The typical voter may not understand the nuances of political platforms, but they do understand that under Conservative rule things got worse by just about every metric and that Britain has lost much of its national identity.
Labor will make it worse for certain, and you are right that vax mandates had almost no impact in the vote. This was a repudiation of Conservative mismanagement and their seemingly outright hostility to the average UK subject. And who can blame the voters?
“Perhaps even more tellingly, now-dominant Labour was the only major British party to oppose vaccine mandates and most of the vaccine passport rules during the pandemic.”
How soon will it be that cracks in the armor of this new party control start to show. I can hear it now, “With this new bird flu, it might be better to “emphasize” to the folks this great v@x. After all, it’s for the greater good.”

I can blame the voters for deciding that socialists have the golden remedy for what ails England. Fools.
I think on the immigration issue, the Tories were particularly feckless.
maybe that's why Farage got in?
You just said what I was about to say. Labour are WAY worse
