🪖 I’m advising a gentleman this morning who’s gotten tangled up with his company’s ESG initiative. In thinking about his situation, I wondered whether I should write up a guide or series of guides advising employees who are facing ESG and diversity programming, who want to resist or just to survive mentally and ethically intact. Kind of like what I did for the vaccine mandates and exemptions. What do you think?
Let’s crowdsource a little. If you’ve successfully survived or resisted a workplace ESG experience, in whatever small or minor way, please share it in the comments. If it’s too personal or otherwise confidential, you could email it instead to suzette.witt@smartbizlaw.com.
🗞💬 *WORLD NEWS AND COMMENTARY* 💬🗞
🔥 See, THIS is the problem with a ‘Weekend At Bernie’s’ president. USA Today ran a story Wednesday headlined, “President Biden Calls China’s Xi a Dictator, Drawing a Backlash From Beijing.”
It wasn’t the smartest thing Joe ever said.
To fully comprehend Joe’s latest verbal faux pas, it is important to understand that the Biden Administration has been in a full-court press this week to pacify the Chinese. Our underqualified Secretary of State Antony Blinking, I mean Blinken, sorry, went to Beijing in person for talks, and among other humiliating concessions, he publicly confirmed that the US does NOT support Taiwanese independence.
Blinken appeared to be making progress, taking his humiliations like a pro. But then, Joe struck. During a democrat fundraiser in Kentfield, California, on Tuesday, Biden — riffing off teleprompter — was bragging about shooting down that spy balloon and was gaslighting donors about why he delayed so long.
At some point, the dementia-addled wreck of a politician dropped this diplomatic stinker:
“The reason why Xi Jinping got very upset, in terms of when I shot that balloon down with two boxcars full of spy equipment in it, is he didn’t know it was there,” Biden said. “No, I’m serious. That’s what’s a great embarrassment for dictators, when they didn’t know what happened.”
Biden thought he was puffing himself up, but China is pretty prickly about the “dictator” label. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning immediately had strong words about Biden’s rambling:
“It is a blatant political provocation. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and opposition,” Mao said at a daily briefing, calling Biden’s remarks “extremely absurd and irresponsible.”
It’s not like we’re on the brink of war with China or anything.
During a meeting with India’s Prime Minister yesterday, yapping reporters pressed Biden for a statement about the dustup with China. Biden seemed flummoxed and remained silent. Well, you tell me how Joe seems:
https://twitter.com/RNCResearch/status/1671905975127638016
Later, in response to a reporters question, the Resident painfully explained in Bidenese that, “The idea of my choosing and avoiding saying what I think is the facts, with regard to the relationship… with China, is just not something I’m going to change very much.” The former vice-president also said he expects to meet with China’s President Xi “sometime in the future, in the near term,” but didn’t say when, and added that in his opinion the diplomatic fallout has not “had any real consequence,” dismissing diplomatic concerns as “hysteria.”
Corporate media immediately shifted into overdrive covering for Biden’s latest gaffe. Listen to Andrea Mitchell falling over herself in a grotesque effort to excuse Biden’s diplomatic hand-grenade. Breaking it down simply so all of us idiots could understand, Mitchell said:
Let’s pull back the curtain and explain how these fund-raisers work … It’s the West Coast, it’s late at night, he’s done four of these, plus that meeting on artificial intelligence earlier in the day, so he’s had a very busy schedule … that’s how they get themselves in trouble.
https://twitter.com/mtracey/status/1671585024699768834
Makes sense. Biden is WORKING SO HARD that he just couldn’t help it. He’s such a hard worker! So … ultimately it’s OUR fault, and we should be thanking Joe.
🔥 The Wall Street Journal ran an odd story yesterday headlined, “U.S. Navy Heard What It Believed Was Titan Implosion Days Ago.” The subheadline explained, “Underwater microphones designed to detect enemy submarines first detected Titan tragedy.”
Now they tell us. The Navy, citing national security concerns, did not name the specific system used for the operation. Presumably it used some high-tech military sensors and advanced computers to help search for the wayward mini-sub:
The Navy began listening for the Titan almost as soon as the sub lost communications, according to a U.S. defense official. Shortly after the submersible’s disappearance Sunday, the U.S. system detected what it suspected was the sound of an implosion near the debris site discovered Thursday and reported its findings to the Coast Guard commander on site, U.S. defense officials said.
So … on Sunday, they heard the sub collapse and knew the location. But for its own reasons, the government didn’t release that information to the public, or to the other non-military agencies that were involved in the immeasurably-expensive search, until five days later:
The U.S. held off making public what noises it had detected because it wanted to ensure search-and-rescue operations continued and couldn’t say for sure it was an implosion.
If you give it a moment’s thought, that is a terrible explanation. I don’t know why they didn’t tell, but it couldn’t have been for the reason they gave. They could have send people right to the debris. The alleged explanation also fails to explain the claims from earlier this week that banging noises were heard.
There weren’t any banging noises unless it was ghosts.
The Navy’s delay, combined with the timing of yesterday’s release — after it’s no use to anyone — led to suspicious headlines in several conservative news media, like this one from the PostMillennial: “BREAKING: US Navy Detected Titan Implosion on Sunday, but Biden Admin Only Released News on Thursday After Hunter Plea Deal and Whistleblower Reports Released.”
Which leads us to our next story.
🔥 Once again, the big corporate media newspapers have failed us, utterly ignoring on of the biggest stories of the decade, leaving me free to quote conservative media instead. The Federalist ran a story yesterday headlined, “Hunter Biden Threatened ‘My Father’ Could ‘Hold A Grudge’ In Extortive Message To Chinese Associate Revealed By Whistleblower.”
And that headline is, if anything, an understatement.
Yesterday, the House Ways and Means Committee released previously classified testimony by IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley about the Hunter Biden investigation. That’s the five-year-old investigation recently resulted in a deferred-prosecution, misdemeanor plea deal.
Among other things, agent Shapley testified that IRS investigators had recommended felony tax evasion charges against Hunter, but the DOJ overrode them.
After discovering there was evidence against Joe Biden hidden in a guest house, investigators were told that “there is no way a search warrant would ever get approved.” So Don’t. Even. Try.
I know what you’re thinking, but this is a totally different situation from, say, a search warrant of a former president’s home over some missing paperwork. Don’t be stupid.
https://twitter.com/HansMahncke/status/1671925792618561553
Shapley also disclosed evidence that is perfectly consistent with the Oversight Committee’s Biden Bribery case investigation: a WhatsApp message that Hunter sent to a Chinese official, obviously shaking the official down for cash, and — this is key — warning that “my father is sitting right next to me.”
Who’s Hunter’s proud father again? Oh yeah. Here’s just the first part of the message:
This evidence now leaves the Bidens in the uncomfortable position of either having to claim Hunter is a liar, or admitting that Joe participated in the shakedown. Neither is a particularly great option.
And for some reason, Joe Biden didn’t appear especially anxious yesterday to answer reporters’ questions about Hunter’s WhatsApp message:
https://twitter.com/bennyjohnson/status/1671957074421358593
It’s a huge, developing story. I’ll keep you posted.
🔥 The LA Times piled on yesterday, in a backhanded attack on Hunter headlined, “Snctm Sex Club Founder Banned After Naming Hunter Biden as Former Member.”
Here’s how the LA Times described the club and its founder:
Damon Lawner, 52, created Snctm in 2013 after watching the Tom Cruise movie “Eyes Wide Shut,” which features scenes in which wealthy elites gather at a secretive orgy. With a carefully curated guest list and membership fees of up to $75,000 a year, it became the free-love private playground of Hollywood actors, rock stars, chief executives, city officials and run-of-the-mill millionaires.
The story goes on to describe how Lawner claimed to have kicked Hunter out for being “a scumbag,” which in turn got Lawner kicked out for revealing a member’s identity. Lawner calling Hunter a scumbag says a lot, if you think about it, since sex club owners aren’t exactly moral paragons of society or anything. It’s hard to figure which is the bigger scumbag.
Anyway, the point is, the LA Times story buried the lede.
Who cares about Joe Biden’s crack-addled son? Hunter is the FIRST person we’d guess would be a member of a pervert orgy club. The better question is, what about all the others? The “Hollywood actors, rock stars, chief executives, city officials and run-of-the-mill millionaires” who attended the club?
I mean, CITY OFFICIALS? Does the LA Times have not a remaining shred of curiosity anywhere within its diseased journalistic body? If the LA Times can recite that Snctm membership list as a fact, then where are all the stories outing all these other perverts? After all, these people are presumably appearing in films and concerts that kids are watching, running companies, and holding public office?
To me, this story represents everything wrong about the culture in 2023. By pretending like orgy club membership is just another lifestyle choice that shouldn’t be judged, the LA Times is obsequiously protecting élite perverts who should probably be in jail, but at minimum should be financially ruined and forever driven out of polite society.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but attending orgy clubs is NOT okay. Especially for presumed role models like actors, chief executives, and city officials. Sex clubs are morally wrong if not outright evil, and they DO hurt people, by encouraging sex trafficking.
Come on, LA Times. Do better.
🔥 I’m not quite sure what to make of this next story this yet, but this morning, WFIT Public Radio blasted out the alarming headline, “The Atlantic is On Fire.”
The quote came from a marine scientist. “The Atlantic is definitely on fire,” said Micheal Fischer, an assistant scientist with the University of Miami-NOAA Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies, providing the alarming language in the headline. He didn’t mean a proper fire, or that the ocean is now a giant all-you-can eat bouillabaisse.
Fischer really meant that, once again, scientists are baffled.
Scientists have called whatever is happening “one of the most extreme marine heatwave events ever recorded in modern history,” and even “beyond extreme:”
To non-scientists, it seems like hyperbole to say the Atlantic ‘is on fire.’ We’re only talking about an average increase in water temperature of less than one degree. But even slight variations in ocean temperature can dramatically affect weather and sea life.
And the increase isn’t only one degree everywhere. It’s a lot more than that in spots, which will shortly become an important fact.
Whatever is happening, it’s definitely SOMETHING, and most scientists definitely have no idea what’s causing it. From the Washington Post last week:
Baffled! From the Canadian Broadcast Company:
From Phys.org:
And this eye-popping headline, from CBS News back in January:
The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists recently calculated the dramatic increase in ocean temperatures from 1971 until now, also putting it in alarming nuclear terms: “Since 1971, the Earth has absorbed the heat equivalent of over 6 billion atomic explosions of the size that decimated Hiroshima in 1945, give or take a few explosions.”
Six billion, that’s a lot of bombs. Among other things, it proves that, once again, the Earth is vastly more powerful than human beings.
On June 1st, the New York Times ran an op-ed with the sinister headline, “The Ocean is Looking More Menacing.” And here you thought the ocean’s reputation couldn’t get any worse after Jaws came out.
It’s even MORE menacing now.
The op-ed’s author explained “in line with historical seasonal patterns, [May global ocean temperatures] began to slightly decline — only to reverse course in the middle of the month, heating up to about three quarters of a degree above the 1982-2011 mean. That represent[s]… the largest global ocean temperature anomaly on record.”
In other words, we’ve never ever seen anything like this before.
Although a few of the many articles stretched the point, trying to claim that man’s carbon activity could be the culprit, there is no possible way that atmospheric carbon could heat the oceans this much through “global warming.” Ethical Skeptic — the same analyst who tracks covid and related death rates — has been watching and writing about this phenomenon for several months now. Paraphrasing Ethical, he proposes that the only possible source of all this energy are deap-sea ocean floor vents pouring vast amounts of superheated water into the oceans out of the Earth’s core.
Ethical’s theory reminded me of another news trend that I’ve observed this year in the scientific press. Excited deep-sea scientists have been discovering many new “hydrothermal vents” in the oceans recently:
A hydrothermal vent is a crack in the ocean’s floor out of which is shooting a vast amount of heated water, like an undersea hot spring. Except super-hot.
Ethical Skeptic has recently been publishing charts of daily sea surface temperatures, and he’s observed the anomaly developing from late last year. Historic levels of heating is showing up in the readings and much of that difference has shown up very, very recently.
In this chart, the lower, dotted line is the 1982-2011 mean temperature. The orange line in the middle is the 1995 ocean temperature, the solid black line at the top shows 2023 readings, and the shaded area represents just the recent heating:
Even a single degree over the average temperature is statistically significant, as is a one-third degree increase, because of the fact there is SO much water in the oceans. It takes a truly enormous amount of energy to heat it all up. An unimaginable amount of energy.
Especially if you’re talking about heating all that water up QUICKLY.
Ethical’s theory is the only current explanation that makes sense. The only way to generate all that energy is with something like magma or water superheated by molten rock pouring into the ocean somewhere.
Imagine LOTS of new undersea volcanoes. That could do it.
And as it happens, we are also seeing hot spots — places in the oceans where temperatures range much higher than one degree — which would be consistent with giant superheated vents, undersea volcanoes, or magma leaks. The hot spots might be located above these areas where super-hot water is gushing into the oceans.
Hot spots are also inconsistent with global warming, for obvious reasons.
According to the Times’ June 1st op-ed, the distribution of heat is very inconsistent. In April there were some huge areas of the world’s oceans that were as much as two degrees over the 1971-2000 average. In other places off the Pacific coast of South America, it shot up as much as FIVE degrees. And sea-surface temperatures in spots off the Atlantic coast of North America — the places they are saying are “on fire” — registered almost FOURTEEN degrees above the 1971-2011 average.
Heating that much water by fourteen degrees requires a literally unimaginable amount of energy. Hence the scientists’ recourse to using billions of nuclear bombs to illustrate the situation.
I have no idea what any of this means, whether it’s something real or is another made up emergency, or whether there is any reason at all to even be concerned about it. Nor do the poor, baffled scientists. In one of the articles I reviewed, when the reporter asked a scientist what to expect in terms of weather and related side-effects from the ocean heating, she replied “Expect chaos.”
In other words, who knows? There doesn’t seem to be anything that can be done about it. We can’t fix this by making our dishwashers work even worse or by putting diapers on cows.
There’s no doubt we’re in for something new. The heating, which seems to have been happening for decades, is accelerating far beyond anything that can be explained by manmade carbon dioxide. And the first sacred cow to be slain will almost certainly be the “climate change” movement. It’s not carbon. It’s the ocean.
So I’m counting this whole thing as a blessing so far.
Maybe hotter oceans also explains why people have been acting so crazy the last few years. Who knows. I do NOT suggest worrying about this; if it’s a natural Earth process, which it sure looks like it is, then it should work out just fine. If you’re a nonbeliever, the Earth has been here for billions of years and isn’t going anywhere. And Christians already know how everything ends up anyway. We’ll be fine.
While we humans haven’t seen anything like this before, you can find some possibly consistent historical patterns. For example, we know the Earth can quickly (in historical terms) go in and out of ice ages. Maybe these fluctuations in ocean temperature have something to do with it.
Anyway. We seem always to be re-learning the fact that the climate is always changing.
🔥 The PostMillennial ran an encouraging story yesterday headlined, “BREAKING: NHL Announces Teams Will No Longer Wear LGBTQ Pride Jerseys.” The sub-headline quoted the commissioner, “I’ve suggested that it would be appropriate for clubs not to change their jerseys in warmups because it’s become a distraction.”
A distraction is one way of putting it.
Yesterday, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman announced that teams will no longer be wearing themed jerseys for warm-ups during specialty nights like Pride Night. Bettman explained that “it’s become a distraction and [it’s] taking away from the fact that all of our clubs in some form or another host nights in honor of various groups or causes, and we’d rather them continue to get the appropriate attention that they deserve and not be a distraction.”
I covered this story last month, when a bunch of heroic NHL players and a handful of courageous teams were refusing to wear the colorful clothing or celebrating atypical sexual lifestyles.
Bettman said he recognized the timing was awkward, since Pride Month is still underway, but it was necessary to make the change anyway. The theme nights will continue, but now the teams don’t have to wear the ridiculous eyesore rainbow jerseys.
Distraction over!

Re: Resisting ESG. My employer is woke. Was on the extreme anti-orange man side of things. They hired one of those scam diversity training consultants to preach to us. I used content from her own website and social media posts (explicit stuff like "white patriarchy is oppressive and the cause of all suffering") to explain to my manager that her values were not consistent with my personal beliefs or values and I would therefore prefer not to participate in the sessions. Because he and the corp leadership actually have no spine and weren't prepared for dissent, he just allowed me not to attend. No explicit repercussions, but most of my co-workers know generally what I believe (I'm a conservative Christian) so there's a bit of a stigma. I also successfully requested and was granted a religious exemption from covid jab mandates by my employer. It's not easy, but it's worth it.
Before reading the rest, YES PLEASE to the surviving diversity programming guide. I faced this situation three years ago and did not survive, but got run out of my job for objecting, and have had to turn down numerous jobs since then since they made it obvious they would push DEI ideological brainwashing. Such a guide would be immensely useful even if it's mainly aimed at a US audience.
