I could "hate" Jewish people and that's morally reprehensible, but it's not a crime unless I barricade a library and keep Jews from entering. Just prosecute crimes already on the books! We'll live to regret sanctioning any thought crimes.
That is just it, they do NOT prosecute crimes that are already on the books, …unless it fits their corrupt agenda; bending and twisting and stretching those existing laws to persecute, vilify, and jail the innocent.
Can you define anti-semitism for us Jeannie? And please do so without resorting to it meaning Jewish people's feelings being hurt when they are criticized.
Israel is behaving atrociously having killed 33,000+ Palestinians, two-thirds of which are women and children. Many, not all of course, but many Jews are knee-jerk defending these indefensible actions. Quite understandably they are getting a lot of heat from those of us that are extremely angry about the mass carnage, and now they want to make that criticism illegal.
So what exactly is that anti-semitism you claim is so blatant? Are Jews being rounded up? Nope. Are they being targeted for violent actions? Maybe a few extremely isolated cases but certainly nothing organized. Are they being discriminated against in employment? Nope. Are they being told they can't live in certain neighborhoods? Nope.
They are being criticized for the actions of Israel and they don't like it, so they demand it be made illegal. What's amazing is how many supposed conservatives are happy to play along and demand other Americans be silenced.
Edit: Noting that Jeannie was very clear that she didn't support the law so that last sentence wasn't aimed at her. My objection was that she started with a premise "blatant anti-Semitism on display on *both* sides" that just isn't true. Saying things that make people uncomfortable isn't anti-semitism. That's doubly true when the things said are factual.
Indefensible actions? Independent verification of those figures? None. Breakdown between Hamas combatants vs human shields, vs errant weapons vs specific targeting by the IDF, again with independent verification? None.
The whole structure of Hamas in Gaza is such that the population are always human shields, and that is strategic so as to elicit the whines that you are making against the IDF and protect Hamas to live to terrorize another day.
I think the legislation was and is bad, but your comment is also rubbish.
Stop right there. Where are you getting those numbers? MSM. All the activists shout those stats, too. Most killed I have read (different sources) were Hamas combatants, 13000. Where is truth? How many of the same innocent victims images have we watched play over and over? Think.
These are great opportunities for Hamas media coverage, like Ukraine. How many times do we see the same images of the poor Ukrainian fighters (mostly still Azov Nazis) and the dead Gazans? Collapsed buildings are intended to prove that lots of innocents are killed. How credible do you think the warnings from the IDF are? Why are they almost always ignored? Those terrorists wait for every chance, like hungry, savage wolverines, to find a Jew to kill.
I wish people could put themselves in the shoes of Jews in Israel, being surrounded by these indoctrinated (from early days) hateful savages. Remember the early settlers and the Indian tribes who once were described as ‘savages’. History had a truthful reason.
No agency will truly report in real time the actual numbers of deaths, IMHO, much less at whose hands. Intentionally manipulated? IDK, but suspicion is there.
You are correct. What astounds me is that the populace cannot see what happens after the IDF sends out warning messages about ‘next strike’ and Gazans remain in place. It’s not a stretch to believe that Hamas (and other Muslims) have no qualms about seeing their own massacred just for media coverage.
Please review the events of October 7, 2023 in Israel. Listen to the brainwashed children there. When we called indigenous people “savager”, it is likely that they weren’t all the same then either. I know the enemy, the one that terrorizes and kills innocent people. Sorry, but you remind me of those who called out people who refused the vax and they heroically died very shortly after, from the vax.
I don’t support the law but i also don’t support Palestine. Lest we forget, the Palestinians elected terrorist organization Hamas as their legal government and they attacked Israel first killing, raping, torturing and taking hostages. Remember??
The two state solution will never work because it has never worked. Remember the definition of insanity? Palestine loves war and wishes death to Israel and America. These people are not all innocent victims.
I also wouldn’t be so quick to downplay the harm to Jews, which is coincidentally all part and parcel of hatred toward whites, traditional American values, and the West in general. We are in a culture war that we must win and sympathizing with an enemy who would love to see Sharia law in the USA is not cool Jeff C.
Let's not forget that Netanyahu STOOD DOWN the IDF on the eve of the attack by a pitifully small Hamas force so as to maximize the carnage for the MSM cameras to give him the excuse and support to take over Gaza. Also, let's not forget that Biden gave Iran, the sponsor of Hamas, $6 billion dollars before the attack and then gave Iran $10 billions after the attack - for humanitarian reasons of course.
So the US “inadvertently” funds terrorism and Israel is complicit in playing the victim to justify their massive retaliation on Gaza. Israel incurs the wrath of the Arab world and the Left while the military industrial complex happily soldiers on and the social divide deepens. Did i miss anything? (That’s a sincere question.)
Pretty accurate. We keep falling for the white hats/black hats dichotomy. That is a complete deception. Name one war that was started by "the people". Every war is started by the governments to increase their power and take things that don't belong to them. And the people go along because they believe in the narrative of the white hats/black hats. The ONLY innocents in these wars are the ordinary people on both sides that pay the price with their blood. The leaders/elites don't give a shit about those who get slaughtered. Just like the USG, Israel is practicing unlimited warfare upon the entire population because the state of Israel wants to drive the entire Palestinian population out of Gaza so they can take control. You can see the same thing happening in Ukraine. Russia is the black hat and Ukraine is the white hat. And the ordinary Ukrainians and Russians pay the price. And ordinary Americans pay the $$ for the same reason.
I appreciate the chance to think deeper about this. You are spot on! If we take account of all the frightening divisions they’ve spun over the last several years, it’s deviously brilliant and totally exhausting.
If someone has managed to avoid all the skirmishes they must live under a rock… Me Too pitted men against women. BLM sowed deep division and fear of being labeled racist. Then it was Covid and the jabs; vaxxed vs unvaxxed. With Ukraine you’re either on board or a Russian sympathizer. If you don’t want biological men in the women’s locker room then you are a transphobe. Traditional values means you are a fascist. If you don’t support all immigrants you’re xenophobic and racist. And now with Israel and Palestine you’re either a jew hater or anti Arab.
There is no win; they have us exactly where they want us. My question is how can we NOT fall for it when we are constantly pushed up against a wall? I miss the days when people were just people and politics didn’t rule all.
THANK YOU!!! Well stated and God bless you for saying it! I have been called anti-semitic and Jew hater for simply pointing out the genocide happening in Gaza. Genocide is the most heinous crime. No exceptions!!! It is pure evil in the eyes of my God and Lord Jesus. It breaks my heart because every person on this planet is God's beloved child and my brother or sister.
Genocide is a word with a specific meaning. Either it isn’t happening, or Israel is the worst at it in history. Conversely, if you want to get technical and say Israel is trying to kill all of Hamas, how is that different than the Hamas charter which calls for killing all Jews? And how is it unjustified to want to kill an enemy that has sworn to destroy you?
This is a 3 thousand year conflict which the USA is not solving (with or without competent leadership). I favor getting out of the foreign aid and influence game altogether.
Thank you for sharing that article. I agree with you Bluebird. I was uninformed but generally supportive of Israel until 2018, when their snipers held target practice on Gazans standing 300 yards away from the border fence over several weeks. The Gazans were protesting the 60th anniversary of the creation of Israel and what the arabs call the Nakba. This led to increasing popularity of the BDS movement which led to several GOP governors signing laws forcing state government employees and contractors to sign 'loyalty oaths' to Israel in order to quash the BDS movement. (In other words, it was the right who invented 'cancel culture'.
Teachers who refused to sign were fired.)
I disagree with Mike on who to vote for, but people need to prepare themselves for when pollsters start including the libertarian candidate in polls. None of the polls showing Trump ahead include even a generic LP candidate. People like Mike have had their fill of the GOP, and it's possible the LP candidate gets more than usual support from Republicans because of what's going on in Gaza. Trump has apparently been invited to speak at the Libertarian Party Convention and has accepted and I'm not sure what to make of that.
I listen to cspan in the mornings, and they occasionally bring on well-informed guests. From what I have learned there are 2 aspects to genocide and the ICJ is reportedly 'about to release indictments' (I have in single-quotes because that could be just rumors). While people might not like to hear it, my understanding is the case against Israel for the crime of genocide is straightforward. Their government officials have made numerous genocidal statements, specifically Netanyahu with his diatribe about the Amalekites. They have openly stated they want every Gazan removed from "their land" dead or alive. So the genocidal intent is a clear open-and-shut case. As for the current death toll, It is simple to determine if Israel's bombings have been indiscriminate as claimed. If the demographics of the dead closely match the demographics of the population at large, then the bombings are indiscriminate. These are basic, unemotional facts. While a sizable % of Americans (disproportionately older ones) choose to ignore them, the rest of the world does not. Largely because of Biden, we no longer have the $ or the clout to buy off the rest of the world or even Israel's neighbors anymore if we wanted to. Right now, Israel is it's own worst enemy. I don't think pointing out any of these things is antisemitic.
I'm actually not talking at all about hurt feelings or making someone uncomfortable, and I'm not talking about the state of Israel and whether you agree with their actions. I'm talking about factions on both sides hating Jews because they are Jews. It's pretty blatant, and I'm expressing shock and disappointment in the public comments people are making, not about Israel, but about Jews in general. Criticizing the state of Israel or not wanting to fund foreign wars is not anti-Semitic, just as criticizing George Soros and his ilk funding the destruction of America is not anti-Semitic. But there is absolutely plenty of Jew hatred out there, and it's disheartening to see prejudice publicly on display. It's still short-sighted and dangerous for Republicans to attempt to prosecute free Americans for having free views, even if those views are abhorrent.
The "Israeli" government is not "The Jews." "The Jews" are not all Jews. Bibi Netanyahu is not a leader in the character of David, nor in the character of Joseph.
There are Jews who would worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth. They have been lied to by a world that is full of lies. They have been forbidden to read Isaiah 53. They have been told that to be "Jews" they must follow the doctrines of men, e.g., kabbalah and talmud.
"The church" has done a terrible job of making them jealous of the Gospel, as we're told in Romans 11. That is because institutions claiming to be "the church" are practicing the doctrines of men. Believers who have repented and are born again are The Church.
The Israeli government may possibly even provoke the wars against Biblical Israel that we are told are coming.
At the end of the day, we can love the Lord God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. We can love our brother and our neighbor. And we can love our enemy. These things will only be made harder by the world that is coming, not easier.
Pray for discernment and compassion. We'll all need it in the days to come.
I agree. Republicans acting like lazy idiots once again. You know what would really be effective? Cut off the federal funding! If these colleges won't ensure that every one of their students can attend their school safely without discrimination, cut them off financially!
Republicans don't have the guts or spine to do anything meaningful or truly effective.
But Republicans ( and Democrats) are great at being paid off by Israeli lobbyists with plenty of $$$ so our traitorous congress votes how Israel tells them to, not how we the people want. Look up the numbers if you don't believe me. AIPAC is just one of them, and they alone pay off politicians with BIG bucks.
I don't think they care if they have funding cut off from the feds. All the big Ivy's receive grants from all sorts of sources including NGOs and other countries that have NO business giving to those schools in the first place. Most have endowment funds as well. When schools, at any level, accept "free" money they become beholden to their beneficiaries. Such a terrible, terrible outcome to watch colleges implode.
You’re probably right, but if colleges retrieved zero direct federal funding, and were required to finance their own student debt, I think it would be a great step in the right direction. Than clamp down on ‘studies’ of zero benefit to anyone!
The harsh reality that everyone can plainly now see is that universities have become just another "big business" rather than institutions of learning and practical application. Further, they beguile parents into believing that it's an honor to pay for their children's education. It's gross.
As a side note, when I was attending college I began as an interior design major but graduated with a degree in International Relations. It was quite a leap. But the classes I took, in upper division and outside my major, were incredibly fascinating and transformed my education into a the beginning of a life-long love of learning about other countries and how they interact with each both in current times and historically. I just don't see, from all of what is produced these days, that kind of teaching or learning going on. So what is the point of paying echo-chamber learning atmospheres?
I'm shocked at the blatant anti-Semitism on display on *both* sides, far Left and far Right. However, an anti-Semitism law is falling into the Left's "hate crime" trap. Thought crimes aren't crimes. Exactly!! New “laws” to “fix” every issue that arises when enforcing laws already in the lace can take care of such issues.
Example: “squatting”
Enforcement of breaking & entering laws should end a “squatter’s tenure.
Can you define anti-semitism for us Jeannie? And please do so without resorting to it meaning Jewish people's feelings being hurt when they are criticized.

There's little dispute of the 30K+ number. All the Israel news reports it as well.
They use American-supplied bunker busters to detonate entire apartment complexes which collapse upon all inside. Block after block.

Exactly! Thx.

Where are they supposed to go? There is nowhere for them to go. Calling all Gazans hateful savages is pretty extreme and dehumanizing.

If one is critical of Israel's treatment of Gaza, is that antisemitic? Is that even allowed?
No.
No, it is not allowed, which is the reason for this garbage legislation.
“To know who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.”

Jeannie, well said.
