I wish it was that simple. Most people cannot afford to go to college without loans. Without federal funding this translates to kids not getting federal loans. The colleges will shrink, or bow, or dissolve.

True, but what are they learning in college? Some of these universities now have degrees in things like "gender studies". What exactly does one do with that degree? On that note, two of my much younger work mates wound up in trade school. One in now in a working-training program to become a mechanic and is already making more than I ever have. The other went to become an electrician. He is doing quite well financially. There are options to college.
Also, I suspect - and I could be wrong - for every college that bows to Biden the vegetable, there will be those that will not. I think perhaps a whole new breed of college may come out of this.
College is mostly a waste of time today. Party for 2 years, hurry up and get the courses needed to get piece of paper - get said paper - get job offer. That's how its seen. Instead, take a trade school course, learn something practical. Nursing etc. THEN go back and get that degree in Anthropology. As Gov' Scott I believe it was (?), told his daughter "how's that degree in Anthropology working out for you?" (She had to go back to school get a Master's in Nursing..).
A relative who used to work in a community college financial aid dept was sickened by the amount of easy Fed loan money these kids can get to earn a useless two year degree in General Studies. That degree is not marketable but the $30K loans don’t go away, ever! Gotta flip a lot of burgers/deliver a lot of pizzas to pay off that kind of student loan debt.
That’s why they need to multiply the numbers of DEI related positions in academia and corporate America—so these people with useless degrees can find jobs 😑
Yes, but there is a cost to compliance with all of these federal mandates and the colleges who stop complying may well end up gaining far more than they lose, even financially.
