Marc are you from Cornwall or do you live there (or both)? Or is it just your surname? It’s a place I’ve wanted to visit ever since I was a teenager but haven’t had the opportunity to go there yet…

Yep I live here. The heir to the throne is also the Duke of Cornwall, whereby they own huge swathes of it and extract over £20 Million a year in rents for their personal income - all tax free!

Meanwhile Cornwall is at the top of the European poverty regions. Apart from some spectacular scenery (mainly cliffs & beaches) there's not much else here, apart from hundreds of thousands of tourists.

“ What! will they scorn Tre, Pol, and Pen?

And shall Trelawney die?

Then twenty thousand Cornish men

Will know the reason why.”

I knew about his designation of Duke of Cornwall but not quite how much money his tax free rents brought in (though I did know it was a lot). I am always appalled by Americans who glamorize and fawn over the aristocracy and the monarchy. Having money and privilege just because one was born to it and no one having worked for it just galls me to no end.

I know Cornwall used to have the tin mines and fishing (maybe still goes have some of that) but even then people were not well off (I used to read a lot of books that were set in Cornwall, some in modern times but many in the 19th century, and while they were fiction, it got me curious and reading more about the history and culture). It’s really scandalous that someone can sponge off of the people like that. And he had the nerve to want to also tell everyone else how they need to live 🙄

Charles is money mad - always pleading poverty. Everywhere he goes he has dinners to raise funds (allegedly for his charities...). Now he wants £300 Million to do up his many palaces, on top of the £86 Million he gets annually. When all expenses are totted up it is calculated that this one family costs the British taxpayer almost £1,000,000 a day! £345 Million!!

Your fawning Americans are welcome to them - you've already got Harry. We'll send the rest over (by private jet of course - they don't do commercial).

And no, you can keep them, I invite my fawning American compatriots to move to a country with royalty, there are plenty to go around!
