I am happy to see someone else point out the philosophical "issues" with the left/liberals saying someone is "trapped" in the wrong body. This basically means that left/liberals are arguing for ensoulment...which is 100% at odds with their scientistic, mechanistic worldview, most especially regarding abortion. It's a major contradiction that completely undermines their views on one issue, or the other, or both. You can't be a purely physical thinking machine, or an unconscious purely physical consumption machine, or just a glob of cytoplasm if you are in fact a disembodied - and gendered - soul. Even more than that, for the person to be "born into the wrong body," the soul that is that person would have to be gendered prior to birth.
I think the tragic paradoxical thinking is that a lot of these young people talk about being able to finally accept who they are...by changing their bodies! These are kids, many of whom, have been raised on the fantasy of being someone completely different than their physical self. If there are gamers, look to Sword Art Online, or Ready Player One kind of pop media. It is a dream to escape the difficult real world and live in a better world, where one is more competent, where their being is more meaningful. I think the idea of being able to alter your body is a lot more credible to a young person. They haven't seen so much plastic surgery gone bad. They haven't even properly been through the trials of life to see how you must reconcile yourself to a life that is not a boundless opportunity to Live Your Dream, Follow Your Bliss, and all of the platitudes that make you figure that if you aren't there already, then there must be something wrong with you, and much better that it be something that you can just excise and play-do into what it should be. All you need to do is become your own god and choose your own self-creation. I think us older people find it to be common sense that you don't really get to change your body, that you were born with some unchangeable features, and that the struggle of understanding and accepting who you are is pretty much what we all need to go through. And, many are under the illusion that philosophy, and even theology, are apart from what is happening here. And so, you get material illusion solutions which just don't deal with the great and worthy problem that will be so very meaningful to address properly. I've heard the common myth spoken: "my brain is of the other gender; I was born this way." There is so much attachment to the physical storyline, but then there is the question of destiny, of even teleology, for your physical to bear meaning which is what really yearns to be wrestled with. I think we all need a physical HUG. I went on a FB group yesterday for trans, and people were networking to get appointments for psych evals which were guaranteed to last under 30 minutes, with affirmative professionals offering slots this very evening. Is there anyone along the way capable to speak to what this is really about, with this young people who are trying so hard and suffering?
