What I know about 1918 flu pandemic is the real cause was a secondary bacterial pneumonia that developed( PubMed search), antibiotics were not discovered yet. Same happens right now when they count flu deaths/ hospitalizations. They lump together pneumonias and flu as only flu to justify flu vax ( very ineffective ). Just because someone has been exposed to a virus doesn’t mean they will become sick. I think it depends on the conditions of the body, how much virus the person was exposed to. Humans carry different germs that don’t cause any illness so I believe certain conditions have to develop ( weakening of the immune system, etc. ) that either allow the organism to multiply or make it more virulent in that particular host depending on their immune status, etc. For example, I heard that virus can change its genetic code in obese host and become more virulent that’s why so many obese people were getting severely sick. Another example is bacteria N meningitidis is a commensal organism frequently carried asymptomatically as part of a healthy oropharyngeal microbiota. Yet, sometimes it causes disease. I believe certain conditions have to be present for it to cause disease but for me it’s hard to believe there are no viruses, plus besides microscopy, genetic sequence for them is determined. In any case taking care of our health and mind, faith go a long way in reducing our susceptibility to any disease.
It’s very interesting and I’m not disagreeing with her but also from my personal experience ( not a clinical trial or randomized study) when I bit into the apple that my daughter had a bite of when she was slightly sick I got very sick from it. I can clear see cause and effect. I had flu like symptoms and was in bed for 3 days with fever. She had almost no symptoms. It probably means during this time I was more susceptible, it was winter time and I was probably low on vitamins but I also think hadn’t I bitten into that apple I wouldn’t have gotten sick or at least not as sick because exposure wouldn’t be so intense. To me this seems to be an example of transmission but I agree with the doctor in the video that viruses are not the only cause of illness at any given time. Other factors need to be present for a person to get sick. Another example is my other young daughter who had zero symptoms and never even tested positive for coronavirus when she was constantly around us when we were sick with it or whatever the heck it was. Some explanation for it I read is kids don’t have as many ACE2 receptors for the virus to attach. It’s only a theory though
