How much immunity should Presidents get? There is only 1 answer to that…total immunity. Anything less opens a sitting President to blackmail and coercion. Do “this” or I’ll sue you when you get out of office. If a President commits a real crime, then he would need to be impeached, tried and found guilty by 2/3rds of Congress of said crime. Anything less hamstrings a President and makes him nothing more than a target for the same type of sham lawfare we are currently witnessing. If SCOTUS does not go for total immunity, the Presidency is moot!

Totally agree, the President has to be able to make decisions for the country without being worried some cluck will get pissed and sue after he's out of office.

JudyC - if granted total immunity, a President could be held accountable via impeachment if they go totally off the rails? I would love to hear a fullblown explainer of the consequences of total immunity for a President!

41, Obongo, Clinton, Biden all committed one series after another of heinous crimes against humanity . Any of them ever get indicted for them, let alone jailed? Even any real talk of it? Presidents have had defacto immunity all along until TDS set in.

I listen to Robert Barnes on Locals, he’s a constitutional attorney and he’s explained it very well. He’s at VivaBarnesLaww.Locals.com. A great podcast, I might add. If I can find a quick clip with his explanation, I’ll post it.

I'd super appreciate that. I lean towards total immunity but what if he went bonkers and actually, i don't know, murdered someone?

I think protection is already in place. Immunity is removed if a president is impeached, tried and convicted BY CONGRESS. That isn’t what was done to Trump. He was never tried and convicted by Congress. Therefore Presidential Immunity should apply to Trump. We’ll see what SCOTUS rules.

That’s what I think too. Impeachment was the founders idea to hold a president accountable. If convicted by the senate he can be charged. If not it’s over.
