… And then, here comes the cow vaxx mandate … and if that flies, every other animal they decide to PCR test. Everyone has dogs and cats right? What a money maker that would be …

As a veterinarian I am in VERY conflicting times.

I have always believed in vaccinations of animals. Rabies for sure, parvo yes.

I vaccinate my horses yearly and my dogs when I remember. Cats.....try to keep up on rabies because they are all barn cats.

But lately I feel more used than anything. I feel used by the vaccine manufacturers. I am a 2 doctor practice. I cannot buy in volume so I pay double what someone like Banfield pays per dose.....and they charge more than me!!

Now, you have all these street corner vaxx clinicx popping up. No history, shitty record keeping...right out on the highway.

I used to be mobile, but we had and RV and did everything inside the RV.

I think pets are over vaccinated. I think puppies and kittens need to complete a basic series, but after that....well.

We know for sure that some components of the combination vaxx, for example distemper, last for YEARS--like 5-7. But...others in the combo don't--parvo. And then there is the hepatitis part of the combo. In 25 years, I have yet to diagnose a case of infectious canine hepatitis...but we vaxx for it because it's part of the combo.

I KNOW the parvo and distemper vaccines are essential. I have seen both of these first hand and have seen the PROOF that vaccines work.....but the other stuff? I just don't know.

And dog and cat vaxx are money makers.....one dose can be over $10 MY cost. Compare that to cattle or goat vaccines that are pennies per dose....producers would NEVER pay that for a dose...and manufacturers know it...but Fluffy's vaxx? Oh they know people will shell out $$.

We raise beef cattle. We don't vaccinate them for anything. We have had ONE Leptosporosis abortion and that's IT for infectious disease since 2017. And Lepto is everywhere. I know they are constantly exposed because of the wildlife....and we lost ONE calf. My husband doesn't believe in vaccinating the cattle and they are his deal, so I don't argue. We have very healthy cows.

It's hard when you have believed one thing for over 20 yrs and now question it. I question all of it now....and I hate this. I want to be able to trust the lecturers and paper authors and vet schools.....BUT, do they deserve our trust anymore?

My advice to pet owners--have an honest heart to heart with your vet about your pet's situation and what they REALLY need.

My opinion more and more is this: All pets need parasite control--intestinal and heartworms are REAL problems for all animals. Fleas and ticks as well as mange are also REAL problems. Discuss a common sense vaccination program. Everything should be individualized for the particular pet.

And all the woke rescues are making insane requirements and mandates for “care” proof of all current vaxxes etc that it’s pushing folks to shop not adopt- sick.
