You're welcome - that is a logo of George C. Tilyou, the founder of Coney Island's early 20th century "Steeplechase Park", home to one of America's first roller coasters. That logo appeared on signage for the park.
How interesting - read that "History of Tilyou" page and had NO idea that his family actually MADE Coney Island into the "prolific joy ride" that it still is to this day. Never been to Coney - but have seen it as backdrop for many of the Hollywood productions during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Don't they still have that "hot dog eating" contest on July 4th at Coney Island, Roger? (BTW...I still think that cartoon "personage" closely resembles Alfred E. Newman--LOL!)
We lived in shoreline CT during the 1980s and went to Coney a few times. By then, it had deteriorated - both physically and in terms of who hung around there. The impression was of visiting an amusement park in a nightmare. The hot dog contest at Nathan's Famous is alive and well: https://cititour.com/NYC_Events/2024-Nathans-Hot-Dog-Eating-Contest/22219
Sorry to hear that Coney is degraded - as is so much of our country now - we're pumping $$'s we do not HAVE into foreign conflicts and have NO WORRIES about the destruction of our roads, bridges and waterways! We have totally INEPT 'leadership' in the Federal sector!!
As is probably 45% of NYC and surrounding areas!! How ridiculous to "coddle" these "staged Hama protests" - they (the 'powers that be') are setting up our country for some very nasty 'events' this summer. I feel it in my heart and mind!!
Agreed about George - he looks at his best pictured on the back of a milk carton.
Thanks for the hearty chuckle, Roger!! Is that Alfred E. Newman on your profile pic? One of my "heroes" in my teen years--LOL!
