The first place to look for the beginning of the homogeneous headline would be the EIB network website. Rush Limbaugh was playing clips of media talking points years ago--at least a decade, I would say. He would link together a bunch mainstream media personalities repeating the same exact phrase about a given topic over and over again--across the board, and the very day the topic became news.

Back in the 90's Bernard Goldberg (formerly of CBS News) wrote a whole book documenting how all US news orgs took their lead from the New York Times. Once the NYT put out their take on something, all the other news orgs adopted their left-wing talking points in lockstep, often verbatim.

This stuff has been going on for decades, the difference today being that the internet allows immediate unanimity whereas decades ago it took a few days for the party line to congeal.

The real question is who is setting the party line, not how long it's been going on. Seems pretty clear it's the US intelligence community and it has been for decades, since at least the 1970's as far as I can tell.

The Church Commission in the 1970's uncovered collusion with the three letter agencies and the news media. This has been going on a long time.

The question I have is who is controlling the US intelligence community? Clearly the Bank for International Settlements has been used by "the overlords" to finance the political take-down of the Western Gov'ts and the kill-shot genocide of the US and the West by buying up the entire western world with unlimited money printing. Attorney Todd Callender has posited that these unseen overlords are the Rothschild family, the British Crown and the Vatican. I have seen no reason to dispute his conclusion.

There are three places with independent jurisdiction--Washington DC, City of London, and the Vatican. Switzerland also a hotbed for globalist money and organizations. There's reason to believe Operation Paperclip scientists were part of the CIA from the beginning. Who knows but I believe the answer to the problem is the best of the human spirit- love, creativity, and our connection to a Divine loving power.

Yep - was going to mention the whole "Journolist" issue but I figured someone else would get to it first. They literally had "daily talking points" to refute any criticisms of Obama and when the same word or phrase kept showing up in headlines across the country it became WAY too obvious that there was major co-ordination amongst the top media outlets!

Affirmative. The first Limbaugh clip of that type I ever heard focused on the word "gravitas". Literally two dozen television reporters used the word "gravitas" describing the same story on the same day. This was no later than the mid 1990s.

It was 2000 when Bush announced Cheney as his VP selection. Cheney supposedly brought "gravitas" to the ticket. I'm pretty well read and had never heard that word in my life, suddenly every talking head in the country was saying it.

It didn't make sense to me back then as the libs hated Cheney, how could he bring "gravitas"? In hindsight his warmongering neocon impulses exactly aligned with the Intelligence Community's forever war plans. Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Ukraine, ad nauseum.

Yes, it has been at least a decade since my eyes were opened to the media shenanigans, i.e. blatant lies. It's been about a decade since I enlightened my husband. I remember telling him what I had discovered and he didn't believe me. Then, he started watching different news sources and came back about a week later and told me I was right, the media was lying.

Jeff, "Media Consolidation" is the search phrase I use to dig into the homogeneous headline trend. This article is a good example that summarizes some of the changes since the mid-90s https://truthout.org/articles/democracy-in-peril-twenty-years-of-media-consolidation-under-the-telecommunications-act/

* 1983: 50 corporations owned 90% of the media market (TV/radio/print-news)

* 1996: 13 corporations

* 2006 : 6 corporations

(Any time a market is distorted, look for the <sarc>helpful</sarc> government thumb on the scales.)

By 2020, we were left with things like the "dangerous to our democracy" narrative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BJ1JKMcGM4

Those of us that are of a certain age may recall that in the 70s, most TV news broadcasts had a 'counter point' segment at the end of the broadcast. The one on our local station always fascinated me. There could be a left-wing professor on one night touting socialism, and then a right-wing business man the next arguing the opposite. Marx -vs- Adam Smith discussions back to back, in 5 min clips. For me it was the best segment of the news---respectful grown-up debate! They disappeared once cable TV became widespread. Only in adult-hood did I realize that they were mandated by law, and once the law changed (I think in 1983?) then they disappeared.

For me, the Twitter Files debacle is the natural extension of this trend to the internet: control what people can hear/read, and one can control how they think (at least for a short while, until this deception is revealed.)

Good point. TV/Radio spectrum is one area where I do think some regulation is a good thing---to avoid the tragedy of the commons. On the other hand, I'm I firm believer that the general increase of regulations is one driver of consolation across a number of industries. e.g. It requires a lawyer (or team of lawyers) to navigate the regulatory landscape, and larger organizations are better able to bear those costs. The 1996 TCA was advertised as a way to increase competition, and it some ways it helped---internet and cellphone advances for example. But that expansion also led to less consumption of traditional media, which drove consolidation as some media companies became unprofitable---particularly in smaller markets.

As in so many areas of life, it's difficult at times to find the proper balance.

George Washington: Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. Experience has taught us that it is much easier to prevent an enemy from posting themselves than it is to dislodge them after they have got possession, and when the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.

There were no formal Bolsheviks in Washington's day yet he very clearly explains why the very first sign of tyranny is the "burning of the books" and the censorship and persecution of free speech. Having allowed Communism (the Bolsheviks) to take over the Gov't of the United States, it is going to be very difficult indeed to eject the Bolsheviks from power - perhaps too difficult.

It seems that most of us have become consumers of outlier news. I think of it in terms of underground news, and often tell people that you can’t believe anything from MSM, which includes online sources. We were just discussing this morning how deceptive the big G is. Haven’t we been conditioned to look up everything online? The days of having Encyclopedia Brittanica or World Book on your shelves are gone. And what you find online is so untrustworthy that you should almost reject out of hand everything it says. The most egregious are Google, Wikipedia (owned by Google?) and WebMD.
