Of course, he couldn't get it anyway so he's on Ritalin instead. Is that addictive as well? Last time I called for a refill, they said they can't get the generic of Ritalin, only the name brand. I guess people are resorting to Ritalin since they can't get Adderall. The Dr told us the only difference is the life of the drug or that Adderall is better time released (I can't remember, for people who take minimal drugs, cancer meds are overwhelming). Adderall lasts longer than Ritalin so he has to take Ritalin twice a day but would only need to take Adderall once.
I am shocked at the comments! How can so many c&c readers be on pharma drugs knowing what we know about the corrupt business? No, these drugs are not safe. Do not take them!
When your spouse gets diagnosed with rare stage 4 brain cancer, talk to me. It is a fine line we are walking and the immunotherapy actually has the cancer inactive. Believe me, I'm doing the best I can but he's permanently disabled. I wasn't working when he got cancer. Our lives were thrown completely upside down literally overnight. I returned to work fulltime last Aug because I have 2 minor children. I'd like to keep us fed and a roof over our heads. My life the last 3 weeks has been absolute chaos, mostly things out of my control. I have a huge deadline next Monday. So, if you know of anyone who would do all the research, tell us exactly what to do alternatively for a reasonable price, and guarantee it will work, please feel free to give me their name. My husband is on the dex and the ritalin because he can't get out of bed without it and we don't really know why. I am completely over my head swamped. I don't mean to sound like my husband's health isn't a priority but he can't help. EVERYTHING is on my shoulders now, everything. And I'm already about to lose my freaking mind so... come on over and take a walk in my world, any day.
I am so sorry you are going through this. Yes, I’d love to help you find a functional health doctor. If you don’t mind sharing, what area do you live in? I’d also nominate you for Jeff to multiply or set up a give send go for your functional medicine treatments. Many prayers for your family.
Raleigh area. Let's pause on the multiplying, but thank you. I only meant to point out that it is difficult for many reasons to completely abandon modern medicine. I recently got a book that discusses anecdotal findings of people who cured their cancer by severely changing their diet, etc. It was extremely overwhelming. If I had nothing else to do, I might try but I had to stop reading the book because it made me want to cry since it seems so impossible to do.
Praying for you now. You have my permission to do what you need to do. I was shamed and ridiculed for following the direction we took for 14 yrs, but nobody had the same siutation either. As parents, we did the research and all of those "well meaning" friends and foes are eating their words now! Keep your focus on God Almighty! He is our only hope.
Reading this just now. Praying for God's healing touch for both husband and you. Asking that He give you strength, strengthen your faith in His plan, and heal your husband.
Prayers raised. Blessings and my sincere best wishes for you and your family. I pray your husband’s doctors are honorable and on the right track. I hope you're in contact with an expert I know. He completely healed a woman who “had suffered many things from many physicians.” His office is open 24/7/365, and you can reach Him at Mark 5:25-34.
I had a friend who was in his 40's on Adderall and he committed suicide after a few months of use. I wonder what the stats are for suicide/Adderall use?
FYI The generics of Ritalin and Adderall can be vastly different than brand. Many are worthless! Our child's neuro-pediatric-psychiatrist prescribed brand only because she and we could tell the difference. The brand name meds were NOT covered by our health insurance...so we were forced to pay out of pocket, $$$$$. Thankfully they are no longer needed, as coping skills taught by the therapist are still in use today. I could write a book about the maze we lived through. (Profound ADHD with comorbidities diagnosis). We saw many situations turn into nightmares when the prescribed meds were not used.... So, I have to put in my 2 cents here... those meds saved a life by helping calm the tempestuousness exhibited. Today, she is a very happy, business savvy, successful, non-college graduate with a six figure income. One we prayed for endlessly. I am deeply grateful. God's child.
God bless your daughter and thank goodness things turned out ok.
I can't speak for everyone here but I think what most are objecting to is using mind-altering drugs as a treatment rather than a short-term stop gap tool. You mentioned yourself that the key was developing coping skills rather than the drugs (which suppressed anti-social behavior). No doubt drugs can be useful with broken impulse control but it's done by quelling emotions rather than actually fixing the problem. It can help keep the peace in the home but it doesn't actually correct the issue, that was done by her learning to deal with reality rather than denying it (i.e. the coping skills).
The goal of every drug started should be to stop using it. Drugs are poisons that can be very helpful when short-term, judiciously, and wisely applied. The problem now is that drugs are treated as fertilizers to be taken daily for decades. It's not by accident as that's where the money is.
Cannot agree with you more! The saddest thing we discovered was how many local pediatricians dispense 1000's of Ritalin prescriptions, but not a single one ever recommends or referred them for therapy! Therapy should be required! It made all of the difference! And, not one of them had any idea the generics don't work the same as brand.
Read this. It was in my inbox this morning. If your husband is at all open to alternatives, the links might be helpful and this substack is full of alternative medicines.
Yes. Those drugs will cause dependence and potentially problems if he lives through the cancer &/or other drugs the oncologist prescribed. That said many many of the drugs cause dependence, not just those labeled as “controlled”. Look at the big picture, not just this drug.
You have to decide based on your specific circumstances and what you’ve already started with the drug doctor. You are allowed to get second opinions and do your research. Lots of natural things can help even if he’s chosen to go with the drugs & “treatment”the oncologist recommended for him.
May God give you both discernment & guide the choices you’ll make moving forward. God strengthen them for the battle they’re facing. Amen

I’m so sorry 😞 That’s got to be so incredibly hard 😞 I’m praying for you and your family.
Prayers appreciated.

Sorry for the road you had to travel but so thankful for all of you that things turned out well. God bless you.
That road was hard, but wonderfully paved with God's abundant grace. He is enough!

Not so much that we aren't open to it, a matter of time...
