Upon waking each morning, followed by a, "Good Morning God" (ala Good Morning Vietnam style!), that is the verse that starts my day.

That is a beautiful excerpt from Roman Catholic Rosary prayers.⚘️♥️🙏

I make the sign the Cross many times during the day..upon waking, before driving, before eating.

In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen. ✝️

Since I am a serious devotee of the Blessed Mother (aka Virgin Mary) and specifically the Virgen de Guadalupe, the ‘patron saint of Mexico’, I have expanded my daily ‘sign of the cross’ to include…”In the name of the Father, the Blessed Mother, the Son and the Holy Spirit”.

I too say this when waking, getting in my car to drive, at the end of my ‘blessing’ before I eat my food, and whatever situations pop up during the day that could use some divine intercessions! 💓🙏🏻

My preacher always says to say "Good Morning Lord", not "Lord, it's morning". Have to be there, but it is pretty funny when he says it.

Thanks for the reminder!

My 'long-since-gone-to-JESUS' Pastor (like yours) admonished us to say "GOOD MORNING, LORD!"

not

"Good Lord, it's morning!

Such simple, good advice...and so easily ignored.

Following that verse, one should ask “What good can I do today?” It’s a powerful question that Benjamin Franklin asked himself each morning.

And when life gives you lemons, thank God for the lemons and then ask God what you are supposed to do with the lemons. "Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity. In all this Job did not sin with his lips." Job 2:10

Just read C. S. Lewis's "The Silver Chair" and Puddleglum said repeatedly, what a bad situation they were in but if they just trusted to Aslan's instructions, even though they were in the midst of their enemies, even if it meant their own deaths and destruction, that Aslan's plans would turn out right.

We can't see what God has planned for us, but if He gives us lemons, there's a reason and He'll provide the means of their resolution. That's really amazing to think about. And it takes away anxiety, too.

Trusting God and having the peace of God are critical. I love Philippians 4:4-9. It has been a favorite since high school many decades ago. 😉

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all people. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things. 9 As for the things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Lemons are wonderful! They only get a bad rap because they are sour but other than that they are awesome and a gift from God to the people.

ever eateh a lemon, or a lime, sraight from the tree and fully ripe? Grapefruit, too. Travelling deep in Mexico I've been so dimbfounded I ciuld not recognise that this "tornoja" is a grapefruit, tree ripend the way God made it to be. Limes were easy to recognise because of their colour and size. Not a hint of bitter or acid.

How many other things do we "settle for" the common form (as in US grocery store fruit) when the way God made it is so far superior.

The Lord Jesus is able to turn what the enemy makes for evil into a great advance in His Kingdom for our lives, there are many examples in the Scriptures, one of my favorite is the life of Joseph: Sold by his own brothers, slaved in Egypt, imprisoned, but then…. The Lord showed up elevating him to the be the second most powerful man in the existing world!!!!!!

So many powerful lessons from the story of Joseph. He is the greatest “Type” of Christ in the Old Testament, as exemplified by the undeserved forgiveness that he gave to his brothers. He always looked to God for direction.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.”

Last year, I went through some very stressful, unhappy times at work. I began singing praise songs every morning at the top of my lungs in my car on the way to work. This and so many other songs from my childhood, that I had completely forgotten about were brought back to my mind during this period. I really believe those songs kept me sane and helped me get through an unbearable situation.

I will pray for you Deborah. My health was harmed by my situation as well. I know singing those praise songs, many that I learned as a child, is one of the things that got me through. It changed my attitude (not completely, mind you, but enough so that God could still work) so that I could persevere through the adversity. I spent a lot of my private time just telling God that I needed him; I was so helpless and hopeless. I really didn’t believe I could make it through, but here I am. God is always good.

During the time our youngest son, the baby of our family, was in jail and had heroin addiction,

I commuted an hour to and from work. I sang and prayed the christian music songs for him all the way there and back. I learned to praise in the middle of the mess.

Today he’s married and has two beautiful babies. He’s the most loyal and loving husband and father I’ve ever witnessed. Please don’t doubt the power of prayer while praising and believing for what God can do before seeing the outcome.

GG's avatar

I spent a lot of time praying, too, just not on the way to work. I would start when I woke, then continue as I did stuff around the house, showered, got dressed. When I came home, I prayed while I was preparing dinner and going through my evening, and lots of prayer before bed. I just found that singing those songs on my way to work put me in a different frame of mind than even the prayer did and somehow got me through my day. It was really a revelation to me. Sometimes when I would be praying in the shower, a new "old" praise song would pop into my head that I hadn't thought about for decades, and so I would start singing in the shower.

Since my troubles have ceased, so has my time singing praise songs in the car. Part of me tells myself I just don't have the energy for it. But I believe I had less energy when things were so bad. I do pray on the way to work now and just enjoy the quiet, but maybe I should vary that with the praise songs. Either way, I called out to God and He showed up.

I think it may be from the Calvary Chapel book of Praise songs of the early/mid 70’s. We still have our original copy from attending church there after we met one another at a young Adult retreat they did up at Lake Arrowhead.

Those songs still echo in my mind and heart all these years later.

Without illusions about the dark side, consider clinical proof of the power of predominant thoughts. Think negative, get depressed. That’s cheap and easy. Think positive, get things done. That takes mental discipline. Either way, attitude comes before results. “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2). What is your sense of “things above”?
