"Mike Johnson sat behind Joe, shaking his head and looking especially sour whenever Joe fired off a particularly mendacious rhetorical cannonade."
Not what I saw. I agree with Tucker, he sat there nodding his head in approval much of the time, especially around Ukraine funding. He sure looked like a Uniparty member at that point.

The big takeaways? Biden's plan for America? More war. War with Russia indefinitely. War in Gaza indefinitely. More loss of earnings power for us plebes, since all our money is going to Ukraine. But, we're just making it up if we say we have lost earnings power. More abortions; in fact, abortions for all if he had his way. More children turned into eunuchs - he "stands behind them" (probably sniffing their hair). More crime b/c in his view, there's no issue with crime in this country, so nothing needs to be done. And more "immigration" b/c everything that's happening at the border is someone else's fault. And more oppression of his political opponents here in the US.
WTH is wrong with these people? Whoever wrote that "speech" seems to WANT either a hot civil war or to lose elections for the foreseeable future. None of those are remotely popular ideas. Not one offer of bipartisanship.
Did you really watch sotu? I watched the whole thing and Mike Johnson sat there in disgust throughout the whole thing, shaking his head back and forth saying no to all the lies. Mike maybe clapped his hands once for the only bipartisan agreed point that old Joe made…
Definitely did not shake his head or show any disgust during the Putin/Ukraine tirade. He smiled and nodded in agreement with the whole Putin is evil, he's not going to stop, he's going to attack Europe, we need to support Ukraine with weapons/money. The video is there to confirm it.
Now, it's entirely possible he got caught up in the moment and forgot that he'd have millions dissecting his every gesture (not sure if this was his first SOTU?). So, it might be nothing. But, like I said, that part caught my eye. IMO, war funding is the litmus test for telling who is legit and who isn't.
Ole Mike did have a few nods that seemed he was agreeing. I think it was more than he was trying not to be rude and show obvious disagreement. He had PLENTY of head shakes and eye rolls when PedoJoe was speaking obvious lies. At the end, Mike did say he was trying to maintain a straight face a composure....he said he obviously didn't do a good job. I sacrificed my sanity and watched the horror show live. His nods were related to Pedo Joe's statements about strength of American people, ect.....I didn't like his nods but I believe he was trying to set an example of how decorum works. I dont think he was successful. I didn't really want him to pull a Nancy.....but, I did enjoyed the eye rolls.
The one that caught my eye was re: Putin/Ukraine. I just think war funding is the central mission of the uniparty; it's why they're all there, how they get rich, and how they gain power globally. So, to nod in agreement with that was...interesting. But, yes, he did react with disgust at other things.
I don't love MTG's recent behavior. It's over the top, disrespectful to the office and easy to write off as unhinged. Telling a "reporter" to F off? That's the best she could do?
I hear you. It was hard to watch. Watch Tucker's response. He covers it and shows what I'm talking about in the first 15 min or so of his response/analysis. And it's better than trying to sit through angry Brandon. I do hope Mike J. is legit. His nodding during that part of the rant really caught my eye, though. To his credit, he didn't give a standing ovation when others were.
In the moment I was shaking my head at the Speakers “agreement” but in hindsight & after listening to Speaker Johnson’s interview with Hannity afterwards I changed my mind. I feel like the Speaker wasn’t so much nodding in agreement as he was trying to get settled in those first few minutes. Biden was extremely late & then took forever to actually enter, Biden was skipping over protocol (i.e. letting the Speaker actually introducing Biden & inviting him to speak to Congress / the Nation) and Johnson said he was being respectful to the office by not insisting on protocol. After hearing that I felt he was trying to be polite at first. The Speaker also talked about the lack of anything that could be seen as bipartisan on the night. I appreciated his demeanor because quite honestly it would be brutally hard to sit through that train wreck of lies & say nothing.
Good points, thanks for adding. I hadn't heard his take on it. It's possible. I'd imagine it's hard to sit there in front of millions and not get caught up in the moment or make expressions you don't intend to make, esp. if it's your first go round. I guess we'll know in time one way or the other, based on what gets funded and what doesn't. The old "know them by their acts."
Just an angry old man speech. Do these people not see themselves? Alex Jones on Tucker summed it up well: they've lost, their NWO is toast, none of their propaganda is working, we've tuned them out, they're losing power, they're desperately trying to beat us back into submission as we run away from them.
They are absolutely lusting for a hot civil war, pumping the hatecraft and division until we all live in entirely separate realities. Alex Jones, who I always assumed was a nut case, based on only peripherally paying any kind of attention to news, was showing some fine analogical thought, and he exhorted everyone not to let them provoke violence. During the George Floyd protest era, our police chief in Detroit knew out of state (probably deep state) provocateurs were on their way in to cause violence, and had them arrested with their nail guns and black masks and hoods. My friend, back in the Cenozoic, before his prefrontal cortex was mature, used to go to SDS meetings here in MI. Those kids knew that the ones who said they could get weapons and who advocated violence were FBI Cointelpro provocateurs. If the deep state can engender a hot civil war, or provoke one with false flags, guess whose rights get taken away or what technology will be forced on us in the name of security?
I do have to say, though, that "mendacious rhetorical cannonade" is a fine poetic phrase, old school American writerly eloquence, like William F. Buckley or Frederick Douglas.
It's just become so obvious to me that someone (the intel agencies) have been amplifying relatively minor or largely unimportant divisions among the people to create "usses" and "thems." Divide and conquer. It's been decades ongoing and has consumed both parties.
Covid was a massive failure on their part. It did not go at all as planned and a lot of people woke up. I sometimes think all they have left at this point, as they realize just how much we have figured out and just how unpopular their ideas have become, is to goad someone into violence so they can force what they want on people under the guise of "security." That, or shift gears and move the plan forward in a different direction.
I saw the same as you. But only in certain instances ... and enough to make me question what is going on with him.
And as to what is wrong with these people? They are psycotics who have brought in a delusionally based psychotic civilization. For shade of color, add the word 'Satanic'.
It's all surreal. The inversion of reality is striking. Everything they say is the opposite of the truth.
It's also striking how patient and calm people have been. Is it the right reaction? Someone says the state should be able to cut boys' penises off...is calmness the correct response to that? IDK. I think it's just not become personal enough yet, and I think many are hoping they can vote this all away in Nov or can avoid it by moving. Maybe they're right. I hope they're right.
But I find it so surreal. We've been sucked into a very dark alternative reality created by the minds of lunatics with too much power, too much money, and way too much time on their hands.
It's a virtual made up reality, surreal ... disconnected from the imperatives of the natural world. It is, as you say, and inversion of reality. It is a world populated with wizards and demons casting spells and practicing word sorcery. It is a mass demonic psychosis.
It took me awhile to work up to the above. I began more than fifteen years ago with some sense of 'detached for reality' political and economic ... while also noticing both 'infantile and narcissism' ... and without any real concern for other people and the idea, a genuine idea, of family.
It is surreal. But unlike a Salvator Dali painting, these people can kill you and your kin folk.
So many people these days make a mountain out of a few nods or an "interpretation" of "body language", it's bordering on superstition. Judge people based on their actions, not their appearance - how else can one tell whether "I was just being polite" is true or not?
Apparently Fox, Tucker, a number of others here noticed it. So, I'm surprised by all the pushback. I feel like I missed the memo that this guy is above criticism or critique. He's a politician. He should be criticized. Skepticism is a good thing.
Body language is pretty reliable. It is action. Body language often gives away truths people are trying to hide. Police use it all the time. To be clear, it wasn't just a few nods.
If it was done to be polite, then why was he polite during that section of the speech and impolite for other parts? That really isn't a logical explanation.
I tend to trust Tucker more than most, and if Tucker's saying he's Establishment, then that's the way I'll lean until proven otherwise. And, FWIW, I really do hope the Speaker proves my skepticism wrong.
I'm mostly just cautioning against drawing major conclusions about someone's character or intentions (eg going all the way to "he's totally an establishment puppet and can no longer be trusted at all", vs healthy skepticism) based on just words or non-verbal reactions to speech. People are complex, it may be that Johnson genuinely thinks that Russia is an unjust aggressor but also believes in closing the border and getting the budget under control. Or, he may have been nodding out of habit or due to agreeing with just one part of something Biden said (I think someone above mentioned he said something positive about American troops, for example).
At the end of the day, I wish it would go without saying... draw your own conclusions. But I would advocate for looking at actions, especially those that take effort - like what bills has he brought up for vote, especially ones that got him a lot of criticism. (I get the impression he's been less aggressive that the more radical MAGA would like, but still a lot better than his predecessor.)
You might watch it again. He was squinting most of the time so hard I thought his eyeballs were gonna collapse. Eye rolls. Furrowed brows. I never once saw a look of any kind of approval whatsoever.
I missed the first part of the assertive diatribe and browbeating; the part i saw Johnson was eye-rolling, and shaking his head, and then doing the obligatory trained-seal clapping for the cameras at the "correct and necessary" moments. The speech was both written and delivered as intended and to mud-sling the Left's political opponents to an extent that Biden could declare his success moving America way to the Left these past 3 years and how much farther he will do so if given another 4 years.
"Mike Johnson sat behind Joe, shaking his head and looking especially sour whenever Joe fired off a particularly mendacious rhetorical cannonade."

Johnson totally nodded/agreed about funding Ukraine.
That's exactly what I saw too. I think he had severe misgivings on forgetting to bring his Tums.
Ole Mike did have a few nods that seemed he was agreeing. I think it was more than he was trying not to be rude and show obvious disagreement. His mentor is Nancy pelosi per MTG.
I don't love MTG's recent behavior. It's over the top, disrespectful to the office and easy to write off as unhinged. Telling a "reporter" to F off? That's the best she could do?
I watched the whole speech. I'm not sure what you mean by Mike Johnson nodding in agreement. That wasn't my impression at all.
During the entire Putin/Ukraine thing, he nods in agreement the entire time. As the chamber goes nuts clapping.
I'll have to watch it again. Then again, maybe I'll just take your word for it. Not sure I can go through that again.
I hear you. It was hard to watch. Watch Tucker's response. He covers it and shows what I'm talking about in the first 15 min or so of his response/analysis. Johnson nodded like a bobblehead when Ukraine funding mentioned.
Someone else here said it sounded like “Get off my lawn”! Sums it up

From Tucker commentary.
They are absolutely lusting for a hot civil war, pumping the hatecraft and division until we all live in entirely separate realities. It turns out Alex Jones isn’t a kook. He knew for years what is happening and why.
It's just become so obvious to me that someone (the intel agencies) have been amplifying relatively minor or largely unimportant divisions among the people to create "usses" and "thems." Divide and conquer. It's been decades ongoing and has consumed both parties.

Mike Johnson was always suspect to me. He is pro war and went to pelosi for guidance per MTG. MTG pegged him right swamp.
I saw the same as you. But only in certain instances ... and enough to make me question what is going on with him.

I pretty much agree.
