The Christian church got bought out by the government years ago by tax exemptions. Too many Christian churches have repeatedly failed to speak out against politicians and political matters for fear of risking their tax exemption. Jesus overturned the money changing tables at the Temple, which then was the religious/political center of Israel.

Leftist churches and there are BUNCHES, "preach" politics from the pulpit all the time. They seem to have some special protection that others don't have. Hmmm.
My Bible-based conservative minister has no problem condemning leftist politics. His sermons are more than relevant… I just had to find the “right” church… 😉✝️🙏🏻
Sorry, but no false equivalency here. I'm a Traditional Latin Mass Catholic. You cannot get more conservative than that. Our membership when polled is solidly 99%-PLUS in favor of making abortion illegal, 99%-PLUS anti-homo "marriage." Our priests are every bit as pro-life if not more.
And yet, in 25 years of sermons, guess how many have been about being anti-abortion or about popular politics in any way.
ZERO.
They preach about the Gospel. And they KNOW we are pro-life. They're out there in the trenches with us. They don't have to preach politics because they preach the Gospel.
Correct. Not a word about politics in my church sermons. Politics is the start of most woes these days. Instead we get stale pablum. Why I quit. Where are the warnings, the encouragement to put on the Armor of God, the spiritual battle we are waging and must do with the powers and principalities of THIS world and YES. Acknowledging Satans overall control and plan of destroying Gods creation. How do I do Gods will? How do I discern the Bible warnings of NOW. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Around me anyway. They all caved.
I neglected to add Churches need to reject the tax exemptions, pay their share of taxes and preach the Truth. It’s really no different from what state and local governments need to do (as well as colleges and universities), that is to reject all federal grants and funding thereby freeing themselves from unconstitutional federal mandates. I know of only one college in this country that has had the courage not to accept federal funding and that college is Hillsdale.
Yes!!! My former church has a huge empty 4 lot property as part of the church. I couldn’t even get into the church for an entire year. So many have left that paying real estate taxes alone will shut it down. I wouldn’t miss it frankly. Make into real affordable housing. But unfortunately in my town big empty lots become rows of storage units—but at least tax money collected.
Perhaps you need to find a church where the Word is taught fearlessly. That isn’t the same as politics. It just means that a true man of God will not shrink from preaching on Romans 1 and will accept the consequences of doing so. If some call it politics, well let them. Don’t quit, just find a more faithful church. We need each other.
Once you allow the State to impose taxation you have destroyed it. Who decides what is a church’s “fair share”? The world is at war with the church. What better way to do oppress it than to lay financial burdens on it. I understand your concern about preaching the truth but we don’t secure this right by being taxed. We must simply BE THE CHURCH and leave the consequences to God.
We are to obey Godly government— government and rulers who are under God. We are not to obey ungodly rulers. Making me sin or harm people , my family. have we seen Godly rulers? This substack below says what I feel as well. I will not comply with evil and sinful leaders on the horrific harm and death they are committing. Why do you think I have an obligation to obey the likes of our current crop of so called leaders? Most of this current evil is propagated by evil or stupid politicians or their puppet strings are manipulated and paid for by ungodly humans. Nope. I had a longer answer but touched something snd it disappeared as I was writing. Blessings.
I sent the below to my former pastor who inquired about me a year after I stopped attending. A year. Pastors need to go to the roots of our immense current dangers and evil and tell us the truth and what God tells us to do about it. If that includes politicians and governments who have ungodly power over us—so be it. Blessings and peace from Jesus, my friend.
Preachers helped focus and galvanize the message that mobilized people to join the Revolution against tyrannical England. Eric Metaxas just wrote a book called "Letter to the American Church." Don't miss it! He shows how the American institutional church is following 1930's Germany in lock step- while ignoring the prophets (like Bonhoeffer) This war of information will not be won through institutions but through grassroots patriots speaking the truth in love. Like right here on C&C
The state has absolutely no right to tax churches. There is a fundamental, God-given right to worship and our forefathers made sure this could never be removed by, or encroached on, by the State. Taxation is control. To tax churches is to grant that the government only allows us to meet to worship at their good pleasure, not because we have the right to do so. The government must never be allowed to control the church in any sense. Remember the mayor of San Antonio who demanded that sermon notes be submitted for her review before being used by the pastors in her city?
No, it's fine in the AME and black southern Baptist churches, where $hrillary "ain't no way tired." But churches not in lockstep with Dems will lose tax exempt status and fight for 1A in court for crossing their masters.

yes they do- while the "religious right" virtue signals about "Preaching the Word" while ignoring evil. Sing louder when the box cars roll by!

Are you actually suggesting churches with conservative leaning membership don't "preach politics from the pulpit" as well? And are not as "protected"?
If one boldly goes out on such a weak limb? Don't be surprised if it cracks under the heavy weight of hyocrisy.
Just saying...

A church is not the same as a college. They have different missions in this world.

hi Janet,
why do U think that Churches should push a political message and what would that message be exactly?
as a Christian myself, I struggle with this conundrum. why shouldn’t the church stay out of politics and “render unto Caesar”?

thank U janet, I will read tonight after work.
The Word of God is a sharp sword, an offensive weapon. Preach the Word without fear to offend.
Amen Jack, but that doesn’t really answer my question.

Just ordered it from my library system. Thanks.
