Great piece. I suggest a new title for the Substack: "Coffee & Brave New World 2022". It's no longer just about pricks, mandates, and triple mask-wearing.

Tucker Carlson gave a foll-throttle monologue on the top of the Nordstream last evening and appeared to reach a similar conclusion, without actually stating it, although Tucker's style is to ask the big questions and then leave his audience to reach its own conclusion. We live in truly frightening times.

Praying for Florida. My family survived a tornado last year that pretty much destroyed everything we had. It's nature's way of reminding humanity that we are not in control. It's a metaphor for a lot of things.

Material possessions can be replaced. Protect you and your family. That's all that matters.

"It's no longer just about pricks" ... so you're not blaming Biden?

I believe the go-ahead for the pipeline attack was signed on the desks of Biden, Sullivan, Nuland, and that annoying hectoring EU woman, von der Leyen. The short-sighted strategy on display is a hallmark of the swaggering hubris of these people. They seem to delight in poking the bear.

Nobody cited above seems to care about the now inevitable catastrophe facing the German people. IIRC, Germany has filled 85% of their gas reserves in preparation for this winter. At 100%, that's enough gas for two months ~ so they have less than two months supply. That will not get them through the winter by a long shot. Businesses, large and small, will have to shut down to save energy. The economy will be destroyed and even people who still have jobs won't be able to afford to heat their homes ~ the warming centers will packed.

Seems like a great plan to foster dependence on/allegiance to the U.S. Wonder how much gas we'll be providing to help Germany? Wonder when and what Russia's strategic response will be?

Lisa, when I was 12 years old, I remember seeing Kruschev speaking from the UN where he was pounding on the podium with his shoe (some say it didn't happen, but I SAW it) saying "we will bury you". It was a very scary time and I recall asking my mother why it is that such a small handful of men had the power to destroy the world. She didn't have an answer. Isn't it funny that the more things change, the more they stay the same? The only thing that brings me comfort is that God is not up there wringing His hands.... So sorry about the tornado 😞 It is such a traumatic experience to go through something like that (my parents had a house fire almost twenty years ago and it was devastating). I insisted we have a house with a basement when we moved to where we are now in the Midwest. The two previous places didn’t have one and I was always terrified whenever we had a tornado warning. I felt like a sitting duck 😞 You’re right that in the end, the lives of the people you love are the most important. So glad you all came out of it safely.

Thank you. We were very lucky.

My advice is to make sure you have adequate insurance coverage with a good company, both real and personal property. Auto, as well. Understand your coverage and what is excluded. We're sweating out whether our coverage will cover the rebuild, particularly in this economic climate. We got screwed on our cars.

Another critical piece is to inventory your personal property. Take a video of everything and store it by a cloud service. We were lucky to have a very sympathetic adjuster and our insurance covered everything. Still, it was brutal trying to complete a personal property inventory as part of the claim investigation.

Tornadoes are sudden and unexpected which only exacerbates the sheer terror. The one that destroyed our house was an EF2 that hit in the middle of the night as part of a multiple tornado cell.

Our youngest son basically saved us by ordering us into the basement as the tornado was approaching. We were going down the stairs when the tornado destroyed the house. It took seconds. I can confirm that a tornado does sound like a huge freight train bearing down. The sky was orange-grey. You can literally feel it in the air. It's surreal and unforgettable.

I can only imagine what the people of Florida are experiencing as Ian bears down on them. Fortunately they have time to evacuate and I hope they all do. As horrible as the prospect of losing homes and possessions is, material items can be replaced. Lives cannot.

Thank you for sharing the translation. It is powerful.

I am not totally sure that a nuclear war will be the end result of this. Nuclear war means everyone loses, but I can imagine so other horrible ways Russia can impact us; cyberattacks on our electrical grid........for example. That would cripple us on so many levels!!

Expand full comment
John Cougar Misanthrope's avatar

Please see the linked document: https://irp.fas.org/doddir/dod/jp3_72.pdf

In a nutshell, U.S. military planners envision scenarios where a nuclear exchange is 'winnable':

"Developing nuclear contingency plans sends an important signal to adversaries and enemies that the US has the capability and willingness to employ nuclear weapons to defend itself and its allies and partners. The US is prepared to take actions to restore strategic stability, limit damage, and/or terminate the conflict on the best achievable terms for the US, its allies, and partners." @ III-1.

People fail to understand that a war with Russia will not be confined to Eastern Europe. As you pointed out, such a war would be asymmetric, and go beyond a 'military' exchange. Cyber-attacks, attacks on economic infrastructure, the involvement of countries like China, Iran, and potentially India, Pakistan, North Korea and so on. It's horrifying to contemplate.

Do you realize the exent of the underground CITIES that have been built (with US taxpayer dollars) over the last 50+ years? It is truly amazing, that that's just the parts that are public knowledge (or leaked info).

These underground cities (with extensive tunnels connecting them) are built with the sole purpose of retaining "Continuity of Government" (COG), ie, the people in government and their lackeys are protected and will survive a (inter)national catastrophe such as a nuclear attack. The ones that have started and coordinated the upcoming war will be safely tucked underground. Kinda the reverse of Noah's Ark. (Plus, I've almost gotten to the point I don't believe they are totally human, so probably not affected by radiation. 🤷‍♀️)

Lol, true! But, here's the deeper thought: what if, as Nation States, and as People, we all worked to move towards "burying the war club," underneath the "peace tree?"

The Iroquois Confederacy went from all out destructive war mode to a peaceful society that only engaged in war defensively. Peace spread across the entire North Eastern 1/4th of what became the U.S.A. and parts of Canada. What those intelligent and wise peoples did, we can too.

Endless war is neither necessary or sane. Our culture is much, much too violent. We endlessly watch violence. Promote aggression. Incarcerate millions, and spend vastly too much of our societal resources, human and financial, on how to destroy other human beings and Mother Earth.

It's endlessly destructive and will eventually "end" us, if we cannot grasp that this addiction to war, aggression and endless, mindless competition is inherently a dead end road.

Men need Women, and a Woman's perspective.

And in a whole and healthy woman War's insanity is obvious. Just as it is to a wise and balanced Man.

Jesus preached peace. As did Buddha and all our enlightened teachers. It's about time we took that message seriously, and even though you cannot get from here to there overnight, we still need to arrive at the destination.

"Nuclear war" does not necessarily mean a MAD scenario. We are way beyond a 1960's version of nuclear war like Dr. Strangelove or ICBM's flying around the globe. In fact, a tactical nuke could be detonated in Ukraine to make it look like the Russians did it and give Nato the excuse it needed to fully engage. Every war the US has ever gotten into was based on some manufactured excuse that gave the US the "moral high ground" to attack.

Valid point. However, do you believe that once tactical nukes are introduced there will be limitations on their use? At that point escalation to the MAD scenario is assured. ("Russia" -> not REALLY Russia, but they'll get blamed, the cards are being laid as we speak.) The saying is clear "No country ever voted themselves out of tyranny".

PS - I'm still voting and am signed up to work the polls during early voting and on election day (if it happens). We'll see in about 40 days or less.

We live in Central Florida. We had a choice because of my husbands job when we moved in 2020 - Ft Meyers or Central. We chose Central. Looks like it wouldn’t have mattered for this hurricane. We are as prepped as we can be but we are directly in its path as of yesterday and todays models so far. My daughter and I had a pre-planned trip back to Oregon that just so happened to land on yesterday. So we were traveling all day. Got out just before Tampa closed the airport. It was a gut wrenching decision to leave my husband and son at home. We decided that God knew back when we got the tickets that this day would come. And for reasons we don’t understand God must’ve thought we needed to get my daughter out of there as she is special needs. It was a difficult “see you soon” yesterday morning for obvious reasons.

I spent the last four days preparing the house and supplies for a hurricane (which we had mostly already done in June) and packing my daughter and I not knowing if we would even be able to get out. It was an emotional day to say the least. But, we are safely in Oregon now. Communicating with my husband and son this morning. They are hunkered down. We have co-workers who moved to Ft Meyers that evacuated and are now at our house hunkering down too. Pray for Florida. This looks to be just shy of making it a Cat 5 this morning. Things are really gonna get scary this afternoon.

I miss my husband and son 😢 and I’m very worried for their safety.

Jeff Childers's avatar

It will be okay. Central Florida is well protected, hurricanes start slowing down fast once they're over land. The water, like glass, lets them spin fast, but ground friction puts on the brakes. They should be prepared for water in the roads, power outages, fallen trees, and (worst case) a hole in the roof. And then they'll have their first hurricane behind them!

Dear Sunnydaze,

Most hurricanes only bring cooler temps, wind and needed rainfall to Central Florida unless you are directly in the path of the eyewall and a short way from the ocean.

I have been here for 51 years. Of course low-lying areas and certain roads will flood. Trees will come down. And power outages occur.

But all my many hurricane experiences in that entire time have been fine. Often actually pleasant, as "wrong" as that may sound.

I delivered my daughter during Erin, 1995. No problems except the drop in barometric pressure triggered labor for many pregnant women and the hospital filled rapidly. So I was out of my room at Alachua General quickly indeed, lol.

(On the coast, in the bullseye they can be absolutely deadly, of course, and nothing to fool around with, ditto the tornadoes they spawn, especially a real monster like Andrew on low-lying ground.)

But inland, with higher ground, and some time spent being shredded by the friction little hills and dales create, they weaken pretty fast.

I hope and pray your heart stays calm and your son and husband stay safe. ❤🙏🙏

PS- My grandfather lived just off Biscayne Bay in Miami for decades. A very high danger zone. He never left through storm after storm. Twice he had a neighbor's roof torn off and dropped in his yard! Luckily houses were much smaller at that time and all he ever lost was an orange tree.

I have no doubt the US did it, with the concurrence of the EU/NATO nations. The “Green Party” is effectively in control of the US, and absolutely in power in Germany. The German leadership badly needed a way to curb the protests in its country demanding the reopening of the gas pipelines. The destruction of the pipelines gives the German leadership an out and plausible deniability. All NATO/EU leaders - enthralled with the WEF and the Great Reset - are all willfully destroying their citizens’ lives. Destroy the energy sources. Destroy the food supply. Destroy sound money. Destroy the health. They. Don’t. Care. Their evil knows no bounds... until the citizens rise up and say “No More” through mass non-compliance.
