I think Biden’s latest war on women and sports will backfire. If government is threatening to pull its funding from those universities that won’t allow men to play women’s sports, then it follows that those universities who will not comply will no longer be under government regulations once free. They will be completely independent. That means no one can tell the universities what they can or can’t do, including ridiculous mandates or other tranny nonsense. I’m telling you, if you cut somebody off from the government organizations and mandates and nonsense and insanity, there’s so much better off.
On another note, I’m not Christian so I don’t believe in the resurrection. However, I really appreciate Jeff’s ideas on that today. He’s right, things looked pretty bleak and completely unobtainable, but somehow it all worked out. I have to confess I’m losing faith in anything getting better, ever. My depression is at an all-time high. I don’t know how much more of this insanity I can take in the world. I’m guessing I’m not alone. But, at least I have C&C and its comments to give me some hope. One day at a time.
This is the Hillsdale College model; no federal funds, including no ROTC scholarships, or anything (they have a scholarship for those with prior service that is more generous than the GI Bill, and they have something private to replace ROTC with, too). I hope other colleges look to do the same; it would be a vast improvement in higher education.
"He who pays the piper calls the tune." This is but one example of Federal money coming with strings attached. In principle, there's not really anything wrong with that: Perhaps with some exceptions, a private institution or local government is free to refuse the aid, nearly always requires some type of compliance. For example, some States refuse(d) to alter traffic laws to Federal norms, so they missed out on millions of highway funding. Here in FL, we just passed the first (?) unviersal school voucher system. I don't know the details, but it sounds promising (unless you're a public school official, I guess.) Doubtless there will be legal challenges: "Government money supporting religious institutions!" How so, if the parents freely choose where to have their child schooled? If I could run the program, I would give a flat grant each year to any legally eligible child, with very few strings, maybe allow the State to send poorly-performing students to a school of the State's choice.
Florida's school choice law is not the first, by far, and we already had some other 'scholarships' that allowed taxpayer funds to pay for private schooling, so this is more of an expansion of what already existed. The new law includes homeschoolers, which the previous one(s) didn't. The 'scholarship' method may be a way of ensuring that the funds are used for the education of the child and not the vacation or drugs or alcohol, or whatever, of those parents who would forsake their duty.
You are right about the Universities. If the government keeps it up, it will ultimately backfire. People hate being told what to do and eventually will say, enough is enough.
To help your unbelief, wherever you live, get out in nature. Go to a Mountain View, by the lake, take a hike somewhere. The beauty of nature will help your depression and bring you closer to God. Even if just a little bit. Then, when you feel up to it, visit a church open for you to just sit for a while. The peace it can give you is beyond understanding.
I tend to think you’re wrong about people don’t like being told what to do. There are a lot of people still walking around in masks and people that want the government to just take care of them.
I am with you on the second paragraph - whole-heartedly in fact. On the first paragraph, I WISH more people hated being told what to do. It looks like more and more people feel more comfortable being told what to do, what is good or bad for them, how to act and live... a curious and skeptical mind is in short supply. I know someone will read that last bit here and say "DUH Raptor!" But Hope springs eternal (a thing to consider this Saturday!). And I hope in this case Jacquie is right and eventually people will say "enough!" So I click that little hopeful heart at the bottom of her post!
I no longer suffer from depression, anxiety and panic attacks and rage ever since I eliminated sugars, processed foods and seed oils from my diet. I’m eat mostly keto-carnivore foods. Originally i started eating this was to lose weight but the “side-effects” have been a blessing physically, mentally and emotionally. My family, friends and coworkers really like the “new” me LOL.
I also take long breaks from social media and corporate-controlled media. I make it a point to get sunshine, especially in the mornings, walk barefoot on grass when the weather is nice and enjoy nature.
I’m Christian and I believe we are living in biblical times. It gives me hope to know that many people (whether they are religious or not) are against these agendas, that I personally think are satanic. Remember FourWinds, you are not alone. God bless.
Everything you say is correct. All there cancer books show a definite connection between diet and depression. The reason northern countries have such a high depression and suicide rate is the lack of sunshine in the winter. And faith and God sure doesn't hurt when it comes to uplifting your spirits. Great post. Thanks
On Fox Nation Tucker Carlson did an hour interview with Dr. Mark Hyman, who claims that something like 90% of the illnesses like cancer and other chronic illness are completely caused by a poor diet. Top of list is sugar.
"I have to confess I’m losing faith in anything getting better, ever. My depression is at an all-time high. I don’t know how much more of this insanity I can take in the world. I’m guessing I’m not alone."
No, you're definitely not alone. Even believers can feel the same. Whenever I catch myself feeling despair over all the world insanity going on, I feel the Holy Spirit gently remind me that I don't need to worry. I only need to focus & rely on Him and live my life according to His Word. I can't even find the correct human words to express to you the sense of great relief I feel.
What is truth to you? Or does it even exist? Honest question.
If it doesn't, then no need to worry because neither you or anyone else can control anything. Everything is just random collisions of chance with no discernable outcome.
Freedom too, would just be an imaginary concept then.. A fairy tale.
If there is truth...what might it be?
You must have some notion...if only vague?
I am truly curious as your post seems quite sincere. Your concern underlies the notion that good and evil seem to exist.
If so...under what pretext?
It cannot be materialism...because that is merely random, meaningless collisions of atomic particles...according to those who posit the theory.
What makes something good...or evil to you?. Maybe all you need to do is switch sides whenever you sense a winner...then you can always win...and then no more hopeless turmoil and anxiety.
I have chosen a side. I too experience turmoil, failure, misrepresentation, attacks and all else...but I know they come within a context and a purpose...and an end.
You do not need to be without hope.
I do not want to be too blunt...and not judging either...but your anxiety is an intentional choice you are making. It truly is.
You can live the rest of your days with no hope. It is your choice.
You have been offered an out...but no one is forcing you to take up the offer.
I am not religious and don't want to be, it's not for me. Not judging anyone who is, of course. To be completely transparent, I just can't make sense out of religion and do not personally see how it lifts a person up as opposed to making a person feel guilty for so many things. And, I don't see how a loving god destroys people it determines to be enemies. Again, just my opinion and not trying to start any arguments whatsoever.
Anxiety is not a choice, in some cases, it is reality. I don't make enough to keep my home long term, that makes me anxious to be on the street. Anyone would be. I worry about my fading father's mental state and how long he will live, will he die early from the jabs? Every day I fear will be my last with him. I don't know how I'll keep up with inflation. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to physically work. Having anxiety that is founded on things a person cannot change is not a weakness and is not unfounded. Worrying about insignificants, I agree with you.
No, I absolutely do not choose the side that is winning. Otherwise you'd see a Ukraine flag, a gay flag, me supporting drag for kids and a picture of me wearing a face diaper. That and I'd likely be vax injured or dead. At great personal cost, like a lot of us here, my choices to stand up for what I believe it right has cost me family and friends. I have no regrets, but that does not mean my choices have not caused suffering. I still will not back down.
I mean to respond to more but my carrot cake is done in the oven (literally). More later. Thank you for your response.
Well stated. I, too, do not belong to a specific religion but I have learned a great deal from reading the lives of saints and studying Anthroposophy. I was baptized Catholic as a baby, baptized again as a Protestant, and again as Eastern Orthodox Christian. I'm covered in that department (joking, of course). God is not found in a physical building. He is found inside of each one of us. We are the temple. You sound wise and are walking the narrow path even though it seems you are not aware of it. I have all the same worries that you convey here - currently taking care of my mother full time. Had to change my whole life to keep her at home. Even though I have faith in God, my Creator, I still go through fits of uncertainty. At the end, all will be well with my soul - I know this - and it comforts me. I am not my body as the world so desperately tries to convince us all. The world is an illusion, it is maya, and it lives and thrives in the shadows it creates in order to block out the Sun/Son from our lives. This is what it seeks to destroy in order to keep us slaves to this world and harden our souls to it. Oh, we are such much more and it is our job to discover who we are, why we are here, and where we are going. It's a quest. Stay open and keep moving forward.
You are right on in your religious philosophy FourWinds. I learned long ago that religion does nothing but attempts to control a person, many religions reach cult status in that regard. I learned that a relationship with the living God through Jesus is what salvation is all about.
There is a great difference between "religion" (which I'm not a fan of) and a personal relationship with our Creator. I pray you have better days ahead.
Well stated. I may borrow your train of thought as it enables witnessing to highly resistant folks without generating instant hostility. Good job there, Guy!
So sorry to hear about your depression. I encourage you to give Jesus a try. Read or listen to the gospel of John and check out Lee Strobel, Greg Koukl, & Jeff Meyers (summit ministries). There’s plenty of evidence that the resurrection happened and if it did, then Jesus really is who he said he was!!
I wish it was that simple. Most people cannot afford to go to college without loans. Without federal funding this translates to kids not getting federal loans. The colleges will shrink, or bow, or dissolve.
True, but what are they learning in college? Some of these universities now have degrees in things like "gender studies". What exactly does one do with that degree? On that note, two of my much younger work mates wound up in trade school. One in now in a working-training program to become a mechanic and is already making more than I ever have. The other went to become an electrician. He is doing quite well financially. There are options to college.
Also, I suspect - and I could be wrong - for every college that bows to Biden the vegetable, there will be those that will not. I think perhaps a whole new breed of college may come out of this.
College is mostly a waste of time today. Party for 2 years, hurry up and get the courses needed to get piece of paper - get said paper - get job offer. That's how its seen. Instead, take a trade school course, learn something practical. Nursing etc. THEN go back and get that degree in Anthropology. As Gov' Scott I believe it was (?), told his daughter "how's that degree in Anthropology working out for you?" (She had to go back to school get a Master's in Nursing..).
A relative who used to work in a community college financial aid dept was sickened by the amount of easy Fed loan money these kids can get to earn a useless two year degree in General Studies. That degree is not marketable but the $30K loans don’t go away, ever! Gotta flip a lot of burgers/deliver a lot of pizzas to pay off that kind of student loan debt.
That’s why they need to multiply the numbers of DEI related positions in academia and corporate America—so these people with useless degrees can find jobs 😑
Yes, but there is a cost to compliance with all of these federal mandates and the colleges who stop complying may well end up gaining far more than they lose, even financially.
I wish I could agree about the universities but they LIKE what is happening and promote it. Liberty in any form is the last thing they want.
Regarding the resurrection: many have died for what they believed was true but ultimately was not true. To not believe the resurrection is to say that the apostles and many other first Christians willingly were martyrs for something they knew was false. That’s not a reasonable position.
I dunno. I don't see university bureaucrats as independent thinkers. More likely, they will meekly cave. It's all about the money for them....and for politicians.
No but with fewer people choosing college, and population numbers down, there’s going to be a lot more competition and a lot fewer colleges in existence. At some point it’s all going to backfire on the woke ones.
And if girls can no longer get athletic scholarships, their numbers at colleges might decrease and that implies a whole host of other effects.
I believe I know what you allude to. I take a perverse fascination reading about past or current events, where the legal system uses pretzel logic to effectively allow racial (sex, etc.) preferences in the name of equial protection under the law. There are numerous examples, take your pick. On the topic of university admissions alone, there are several Supreme Court decisions and probably more in the pipeline. Fundamentally, the problem can be traced back to (at least) The Enlightenment, the idea that all men were equal before God, the Law, etc. As the centuries progress, the egalitarian zeal gets applied to new domains usually without consideration of success or failure of prior attempts. The unhappy reality is that men are not equal, nor will they ever be so. As a result, attempt at a one-size-fits-all legal, justice, moral, etc. system is doomed from the outset.
I think Biden’s latest war on women and sports will backfire. I think Hillsdale College deserves to be multiplied! They’re one of the few institutions still offering a quality education and standing for truth.

I was going to say the same thing. Maybe it should have been *some* people—like the commenters here!
I am with you on the second paragraph - whole-heartedly in fact. On the first paragraph, I WISH more people hated being told what to do. This is why we don't want federal strings on anything. Then they can have control through funding threats.
Golden Rule of Financing: “He who has the gold makes the rules.”
